Default Scout gps link

Hello,

I have a 2018 NX which doesn’t have the nav system. So I got the scout gps link app to use for navigation; anyway, everytime I plug my iPhone 5SE to optimize the scout gps navigation; everything grays out and I get a download error message. I was initially able to use the optimized scout app. I wonder what happened? The dealership tech specialist said he doesn’t know how to fix it. Can anyone help?

I am having the same problem as well, but it is an acknowledged issue with Toyota, the parent company of Lexus. It is occurring in all 2018 Toyota and Lexus vehicles that utilize Scout GPS Link via iPhone. For now, we can only use the TurnStream mode because the MapStream mode is not working with the current iOS. To fix, unplug your iPhone from the USB port, turn off "enhanced mode," then you would have to log off from Scout GPS Link, and disconnect from Enform 2.0; then turn off your car then restart your car to reset the infotainment system. Once that is performed, reconnect Enform 2.0 via Bluetooth and log-on to Scout via Bluetooth. If and when you plug your phone a pop-up screen will display "This App uses enhanced mode. Connect device in enhanced mode from now on?" ... DO NOT enable "Enhanced Mode" and select NO. Otherwise, ALL your apps will lose connectivity (will appear grayed out) even with Bluetooth, and you would have to do all these steps all over again.

Until Apple releases an update and Toyota/Telenav/Xevo updates the current system, this issue will persist. Toyota has not given an ETA as to when the problem will be resolved. Check the link below for more information. Hope this helps.

Toyota announced that the Avalon 2019 will have Apple CarPlay capabilities according to their press release. I would hope that Toyota/Lexus would at least allow the 2018 folks to update their systems to allow for CarPlay to have the option to use Maps instead of Scout. I really hope Toyota has some sympathy for us.

Hope so, but doubt it. "Toyota told us that it doesn't have any plans to support CarPlay in pre-2019 vehicles at this time, even though models like the 2018 Camry and 2018 Sienna have its Entune 3.0 system." It's at the bottom under update 3. I'm not holding my breath.

Default iOS update fixes issue for Scout GPS

So I updated my iPhone iOS to 11.2.5 and the full screen map started to work but there is a trick to it. I start Enform, start the car, start scout via Bluetooth with plugging it in via usb. Once the phone screen shows the app is connected then I plug in the usb cord from the car and it actually loads the full screen map on the car multimedia screen.

Overall for a Navi that I don’t have to pay for it works great and serves its purpose. You do have to keep the scout app open on screen on your phone for the maps to show on the car screen.

Agree. I was expecting clicking your heels three times and spinning 90 degrees next.

So I tried that trick and my infotainment system crashed twice (1st the audio disabled completely, and 2nd time the screen froze) and now it went back to doing the same thing, in that once you plug the usb the apps are grayed out.

When the map feature worked it was a great experience and made me not hate the app that much but when the errors started happening, well let’s just say I am praying Toyota hear our pleads to enable Apple CarPlay ASAP. I love my NX 300 but this infotainment system is just poop. I would pay to get CarPlay activated just like the folks over at BMW than to have Enform 2.0. And The Scout app is too basic for me, if Lexus doesn’t opt for CarPlay at least let us use Waze.

It's unbelievable that none of the Lexus technicians know anything about this. I just bought a 2018 NX300H a couple of weeks ago and when I hesitated over the fact that navigation wasn't included, I was assured that this wonderful Scout GPS Link would work with my iPhone. After struggling with the Enforma and Scout GPS apps, I worked with two different Lexus technicians at two different dealers, both of whom had no idea why it wouldn't work. I went back twice to my dealer and finally one of the guys found out that Enforma apps don't work with iOS 11 - it's not just the Scout GPS. Now he's telling me that it's Apple's fault, therefore not Lexus's problem. Can't Lexus exert some pressure? Or at least change their website help pages where it says the iPhones work? This whole experience has been really annoying and makes me feel as if I've been misled. I don't know what recourse I have but I think for the amount I paid I should be able to have a navigation system.

How do you turn off the Enhanced Mode? When I plugged my phone in, it said that it was using Enhanced Mode and I didn't see any way to disable it.

You would have to go to menus >strings >application setting (the last one) and turn it off there

Thanks. I wasn't able to make it happen (didn't see a place to do it on my menu). I guess there is nothing to do but wait and hope someone does an update.

Wink Scout GPS Link Fixed? Perhaps.

Based upon recommendations from the Toyota site discussing Scout GPS link problems, I learned that it is worthwhile upgrading one's iPhone IOS to 11.2.6 which is available today in non-beta format. The following steps have produced a Scout GPS link map for me 6 times in a row (a record).
1. Swipe both Scout and Enform apps from your iPhone, closing both. (double click home button and swipe up to close apps).
2. Bring up Scout and choose a destination. No need to start navigation. (not sure if this step is needed but it works)
3. Plug in to usb
4. Start engine. Give it the permissions and acknowledgements it wants.
5. Scout should come up in Mapstream mode. Click on it to go full screen.

No, I haven't driven in Mapstream mode more than 15 minutes yet so I don't know whether it will fail and result in a dark screen. However, I am hopeful!
