Weird Brake Issue
Hi all! My 2017 NX with 6,800 miles is currently at the dealership with an odd issue that started happening about 2 weeks ago. When I’m in reverse and tap on the brakes, I can almost hear the brake pads making a connection to the rotors. The best way to explain the noise I’m hearing is it sounds like the noise that’s made when a magnet is put on a refrigerator. It’s a clicking/thumping noise. At first I couldn’t figure out it it was the driver or the passenger side. When the service guy was with me we ended up hearing that it was both sides. We knew because first the driver side clicked and 1 second later the passenger side did it.
The reason im asking for opinions is because I feel like every issue I have, the dealership tells me is normal. I want to make sure I can push them if they try to pass this off as normal. They acknowledged this noise today and said they wouldn’t know until they looked at it, but that it could just be the brake pads wearing in and they are sliding around in the caliper. This doesn’t make sense to me for two reasons (1) it doesn’t make the noise when going back to drive and (2) I’ve never heard any kind of noise with brake pads sliding around in any other vehicle I’ve driven. Surely this isn’t something that I should just accept as brake pads wearing in, right?
I look forward to any suggestions.

HI,
Mine did the exact same thing. I had to go around and around with Lexus. They finally sent out their field representative.
It turns out, the noise is characteristic of the vehicle. I was able to replicate with another vehicle on the lot. It is not a noise that is present until the vehicle has about 1,000 or more miles on it. I was able to test against two NX's with similar miles and sure enough, the noise is the same. Annoying, but at least it is able to be reproduced.
