Default Gear oil as well as atf?

I just had my 80k km service. Cost me a bong. But i was just wondering about one thing. On the invoice, there is atf replacement, which i totally understand... But there is also "gear oil". According to the service guy, this car requires atf, as well as gear oil.

Anyone can shed any light on this? I always thought it was one or the other?

ATF for the transmission. Gear oil for the rear differential for the AWD system.

Is transfer case running on ATF or gear oil also? It should have been done same time.

Just checked, yes, transfer case is separate from the transmission and takes gear oil too. Makes sense, my old Rav4 I swapped both diff and transfer case with redline gear oil a few years back.

Hi all,
I am a Lexus Master Technician and I am creating a series of maintenance/repair how-to videos covering the 2015-2021 Lexus NX models.
Here is my video showing how to replace the rear differential fluid.
Hit me up with suggestion on what other things you would like to see.
Cheers!
Viktor

Hi Viktor. Can you shed more light on changing transmission fluid in NX? My NX200t transmission supposedly does not need trans fluid change (per Lexus manual, it is life time?!) and dealer in fact declines changing it. NX is pushing 65K miles.
This has been a hot topic for sometime now on this forum.
Thanks

At my dealership we recommend doing a drain and fill every 6 years/60K miles. Here is my video on how to do it:
