I tried a vent phone holder but it was not secure enough, and more than once my iPhone tumbled to the floor. When in place, the phone also partially blocked the display screen. My 2017 NX is leased as well, so I experimented with cup phone holders. The one I settled on (Macally MCUP2XL, available through Amazon) is absurdly tall, but I can angle it so that I can still reach all the dash and console controls and not block my view of anything else. When not in use, I either remove the holder and store it in the glove box or rotate the entire unit towards the passenger seat, which is usually empty. Apple CarPlay is included on the 2019 NX models shipping now, so you might inquire whether it will be available to you as a software upgrade.

You have validated what i thought---there is NO PLACE in this beast for a phone holder!! The entire dash is planes, angles and curves!!

For reference, here is what that holder looks like in place. I've been wondering whether a suction mount could be attached on either side of the climate control section, but I'm concerned it would not be sturdy enough to support my XS Max. From what I'm reading online, retroactive upgrades to include ApplePlay will not be possible even on the 2019 models, so I'm looking into inexpensive after-market options that could be removed at lease-end.
Here's a video of it on youtube. Pretty cool that it senses the presence of the phone and automatically opens and then closes to lock the phone in place.
Also, I tried using the vent option but my phone, Samsung Galaxy S8, was just too heavy so it kept drooping. I ended up placing it on the dash just to the right of the heads up display.
Could you tell me the item number for the ProClip mount in these photos, please? When I type in 2017 NX, their site only shows me a vent clip that is not yet available. Your solution of placing the phone next to the standard screen looks ideal. Thank you.
I then bought a CD slot mount at Micro center for $10 and mounted the Blaulock Wireless Charger to that. I unscrewed the side piece (passenger side) of the console and fed the wire behind the piece to the cigarette style charger in the console.
It's TIGHT but it works. There's a bit of a flick of the wrist involved when shifting but it is a viable option.
Hello All. I have been using Item 855396 Proclip mount for little over a year. Experience has not been pleasant. My mount kept popping out from the back where it is inserted by the screen. My iphone and entire mount ended up on the floor few times as I was driving. I reached out to Proclip and even though I was out of warranty they ended up sending me new model. Item 855467. It has been redesigned and now connects to the vent instead of the back. It works much better. Here is a picture of what it looks like
I just traded in my RX for NX, and I'm wondering what kind of phone holder do you like best for the NX - suction cup dash mount, air vent mount, stick on like the Pop Socket holster, or some other kind of attachment? (I'm not interested in windshield mount) And where did you locate it on the dash?
I set it in the middle air vent on the right side without obstructing the clock. The only downside is the right side temperature is being blocked a bit but usually I set both to be the same temperature so not an issue for me.
