Hi, I'm fairly new to the forum. I just purchased a 2017 Lexus NX200t and I want to swap out the speakers for a better sound experience. I've done a bit of research and found two posts here where Lexus owners have swapped out their speakers. I've written both original posters and asked for assistance, but to date, none of my questions have been answered. I therefore decided to create a NEW post to see if I could get my simple questions answered.
1. I've ordered the Rockford Fosgate Prime R14X2 to replace the two corner dash speakers. Crutchfield (and one of the posters on the other thread) stated there is no wiring harness for these speakers and that some splicing of the wires needed to be done. However, the stock dash speakers have FOUR wires; black, lavender, white & pink (see photo) while the Rockford Fosgates have only TWO wires (black & red). Which wire(s) do I splice from the existing wiring to connect to the Rockford Fosgates? (see second photo)
2. I'm replacing the front door speakers but not the rear. I'm putting in the Infinity Reference REF-6532EX. Would replacing the fronts ONLY be sufficient to improve the sound stage? It's not like I'm ever in the back seat and if I do have passengers, I usually turn the stereo down to talk.
Thanks in advance.
Graham The existing wiring for the dash speaker has a black, lavender, white & pink wire while.... ...the Rockford Fosgate R14X2 has only a black & red connection.
Thanks ching! The poster doesn't specify but based on the photographs, it looks like for the left side of the dash, he/she cut/spliced the lavender color for the negative & the pink for the positive and left the black & white wires connected to the harness and just left the harness hanging loose. I may follow the lead on this setup but if that wiring harness connector begins to rattle or make noise I'd feel compelled to snip the black & white wires, remove it completely and just put a terminal end cap on the wires.
I noticed also in the photograph that the right side dash speaker has pink, red, green & lavender wires with the installer splicing the lavender for positive and red for negative. I wonder why Lexus used two sets of color coded wires for the left and right sides? You probably don't know, but I'm just curious.
