If you are thinking of replacing the sub in the hatch, let me save you some heartache. Any aftermarket is too heavy. I tried four. Go with something under the back bench. After taking the hatch cover off more times than I can remember, I made that move. JBL Basshub Pro is another alternative.
Regardless, you will need an amp.

You will have to remove the cover for the latch in the middle. You should get a kit with plastic pry tools. It pops off. Pop out the control for the door on the right.
Pop the cover on the left hand side out as well. Be cool. You don't want to break any of the tabs. The panel in the middle against the rear window is next.
Start at one side and slide your hand along the top, pulling it away from the hatch. Then the side pillar covers. There are two round plugs. Stick a flat edge right towards the top to release them. Then you can pull them out from the inside edge of the window. You will have the big piece left. Start at one side and pull down to release the clips. I did break a few here and there. You can get a bag of them from Amazon. When its all off, you will see the lousy woofer. The stock system will not drive anything worth having. Been there, done that. You can run the wires from the hatch through the black wire harness into the car, or follow them and splice in for your amp.
Do at your own peril. I take no responsibility for any thing broken! If you are afraid, go to an installer. Me, I will try anything. Good luck!
