How can you tell if service has put too much oil in? This dipstick is difficult to read. I took my NX to Toyota because people were saying that maintenance was cheaper there. The oil change was $90, and the plug was leaking when I got home. They added an entire quart, and now I'm afraid they overfilled it. I am thinking about taking it Lexus for a do-over because now I am going to be worrying about this. So stupid! How difficult is it to change oil? I would do it, but I just don't want to deal with clean up
They didn’t change the oil drain plug crush washer when they changed the oil first time, hence u see the oil leaking from the drain plug. If you don’t want to spend any more $$$, just bring the car back to Toyota dealer and showed them the dipstick that the oil is overfilled. Speak to the service manager and complain, they should give u another free oil change next time.
They never let it drain long enough, then they just pump in whatever the manual tells them.
After making them drain out the excess oil, believe me, the oil change tech will be more careful from then on, unless they want the service manager on their back.
I now just make the advisor add a comment on Work order to not overfill.
should the oil on the dipstick be between the two dipples on the stick? There's nothing engraved on the stick to indicate what's what. And I looked in the manual and could not find anything.
Those are the low and full marks on the dipstick. In a perfect world, you should see oil on the dipstick right at the full mark. With new clear oil, it’s sometimes hard to see where oil ends and bare metal begins.
Have you tried to turn the dipstick over and take a look at the other side? If both sides show oil way over the full mark, then for sure it's overfilled.
I am a first time lexus buyer. Whats it cost for oil change at lexus dealer ? Case of you get what you pay for or just an exception of some random bad tech/sloppy job ?
