Default 2017 Lexus NX rustproofing yes or no? Corrosion Free

Does anyone recommend to rustproofing the NX? specifically the undercarriage? I only take my cars to corrosion free 3000 rustproofing dealers as I like it better since its a Gel and doesnt swell rubber seals.

I took my 2015 Infiniti q50s for rustproofing a few years back and the dealer told me with these new vehicles the undercarriage doesn't rust as its made with galvanized steel I believe so you dont have to do it so often.

Would the same apply for the NX?

Rust proofing use to be necessary and a big dealer money maker. Some dealers still sells it but most of the time, only the old timers and the uninformed still buy it. Metal technology has come a long way. Cars sumply do not rust as fast as they use to. Unless you plan to keep your NX for more than 10 years. I see no value in it besides additional sound proofing.

All modern cars have double-sided galvanized steel body panels.

FWIW, I have my 06 Camry oil spray every other year at a local shop with LS-3 non-drip oil, and now after 13 years, I found it in good condition (no rust at bottoms of doors and trunk) relative to many Camrys of the same year on the road.

As for my '16 NX, I thought the under carriage can use some non-drip oil spray, but still undecided, given some claims on galvanized body panels. But then, I don't seem to find drain holes on the NX doors, or they are not visible in the areas I look at? If you can find them, let me know. If there are no drain holes on doors, this can be a rust issue long term, as my humble 06 Camry's door do have them, where the non-drip oil residues showed up if not cleaned.

2006 is right around the time auto makers started using galvanized steel for car bodies. Most cars made after 2006 do not need additional rust proofing.

Lol, tell Mercedes that with their 20year warranty worth nothing.

My old 2014 Mercedes only had a 10 year rust thru warranty here in the USA, the catch is that it has to be rust thru, it cannot be surface rust. Most of the new cars under carriage now a days is pretty well protected against rust. There will always be exceptions such as extreme conditions and cost saving designs but for the most part, rust proofing new cars is not necessary.

I don't know how well galvanized steel works against rust, as the said 06 Camry has some spot surface rust on the roof at the windshield. Apparently the bug deflector helps deflect the rock and chips at the hood, but some still made it to the roof at the windshield. So galvanized steel or not, the surface rust is still there.

My neighbor never got his car oil spray, in the last few years before he donate the car to charity, he told me there is a hole in his driver floor, that it was unsafe!

So, other than the surface rust which some may not care given how frequent s/he changes cars/SUV, the rust-through from under carriage is still something to be concerned with. This also has to do with fuel lines, brake lines that can be corroded too over the years. Depending on where you are in north America, as long as road salt is needed to clear the road, rust is an issue.

For as along as I own many cars for the last 35 years, the advertised warranty against rust is "rust through", not surface rust for 7 years, that's about it! They may extend to 10 years, but it is useless! Thus rustproofing can be a cash cow for many dealers and shops, and it depends on the driver's needs or wants for protection of certain areas like under carriage.

I am still looking for reasons to do under carriage spray at my local shop, if not every year, every other year can be a good "investment" for protection of those fuel, brake lines etc.

PS Yesterday I found an 06 Camry with the same silver color as mine in the same snowy city, its door handle shows something mine does not (as mine got oil spray every couple years), just to question the "effectiveness" of galvanized steel on rust.
