Android auto coming to Lexus
#91
I was speaking with Lexus Customer Care about an unrelated issue, and decided to ask the Android question while I had him on the line. He said he had an email dated Nov 2019, that stated the 2019 NX manufactured after Dec 2018, at the Tahara plant are able to update to Android Auto NOW. The ones manufactured at the Miyawika factory (unfortunately, mine) is not eligible. However, this info doesnt make much sense for a lot of reasons... but sharing anyway.

Seem like last week the Europe AA upgrade files are out for Toyota Corolla & Rev4 2019 model. Some called the dealers said will be available on Sept 15th. Could't find anything on N.A. release.

I REALLY REALLY hope we get it in the USA... and I especially hope it will work for the 2018'..lol. I feel like Apple car play REALLY changed the experience for my wife when she drives and it just is a better overall experience with Waze/google maps or anything like that. But I've been android for so long I don't think I'd ever switch to apple so it would be nice when eventually the NX is my hand me down I can at least use Android Auto..hahahah
Fingers crossed though. I really hope it makes it's way here. Lexus/Toyota is really behind the curve honestly with how late they are pushing this. Should have been standard back in 2016.

Well I went to the before said dealer today, about one month later, inquiring why I had not heard from them? And got the answer the upgrade files had been issued for download monday (september 14) but they did not have any personell certified to install them yet... So I am still in the dark when they will be able to deliver.

Not specific to the NX but in the ES Android auto update thread, Lexus Australia is retrofitting models manufactured after July 2018. I'll take this as a positive that more models are capable of running AA and are getting official support. Wish Lexus USA/Canada follows suit.
The Australian Lexus website has been updated saying to contact your dealer for the update on July 4th 2018 forward ES builds (did 2019's get built that early?): https://www.lexus.com.au/apple-carpl...oid-auto/about

No news, but I am wondering about how the interface on the screen will look? What I have now do look nice;
https://www.rav4world.com/threads/nx...270953&slide=7
But do A.auto have similar interface available or will it look just like an old phone with apps, (as it do look on pictures I found with search), doing just one task at the time where I now do have both map and music simultanious. If so, I probably will keep the original. Another problem I did not know about, it seems like I need android 11, (my Xperia XZ3's on android 10), to get wireless connection.
edit
Just did read in my Phones newsfeed from "Autorevolution" that A.auto struggles with car touchpads also, (like my NX has), avoid list gets longer.
Next day; News
Toyota Västerås did call and told me I could get it done when their technicans got the certification ready in a fortnight or so but I have decided not to.

If this kept delaying and no news I wouldn't put my hope on this. On an android phone usually only has 3 years lifecycle upgrades so older car maybe the same, no new feature upgrade and your 3 to 4 years (2018) leased is up Toyota would've want you to trade in for a new model has android enable. I think the only reason there is hope because the update exist in other countries. Also there are other factors like if there are a lot of Australian brought their cars to the dealer and paid for the upgrade.
I would've wait until the end of this year to 2021 Q1 no news pretty much you can give up hope.

I noticed today (which I hadnt noticed before), on the Lexus New Zealand page, it says the NX Production from Sep 2017 to Sep 2019 can now be upgraded to to Android Auto. I never found that page in previous searches, so I think it is new over the last couple of months, but cannot say for certain.

I spoke with the tech reps at my dealer and they supposedly have the Android Auto install/firmware update available for the 2020 NX's (pre Oct 2019) for $199 USD plus tax.
Def sounds like good news, but I want to hear first from those who have already made the visit to receive their update.

Pre Oct 2019 mean manufacturer date? If yes, which means that's NX 300 2020 isnt those already have Android Auto?
Edit: Says already have AA and charging $200 to update?

Android Auto is pre-installed on the 2020 NX's built after Oct 2019. Similar to other members, I purchased my 2020 NX right before the cutoff so it did not come with it. Dealer is charging the said price for the installation.
