Default NX towing

We just purchased a 2020 NX 300 AWD and are considering adding a hitch to tow a Spyder motorcycle on a trailer. The total weight of the bike and trailer would be 1800 lbs. I know the NX is rated at 2000 lbs. Has anyone had experience towing and what problems should I expect.

Thanks.

Haven't towed with our NX, but have done up to 1500lbs with our Rav4 and it's a total breeze.

I remember reading a couple of years ago about a NX200T towing a small travel trailer. A search might find it.

Here is one:

And another:

I think the biggest challenge you might have is if you want to extend the brake lights to the trailer (if it has it) - I don't think the wiring is there for you to easily just plug in.

If the hitch is added, does that completely negate the use of the kick sensor?

the One problem is pulling in and out of driveways and gas stations where there's a dip where lot meets the road. The hitch is very low to ground and will scrape. Total weight of passengers and gear needs to be low as possible. Steep uphill grades will mean slow going. Flat ground is no issue. Half of towing is pulling weight, the other half is stopping safely in a short distance. Trailers of that size don't typically have brakes, but I'd consider getting trailer brakes and having the car wired for that. Not ideal but certainly possible.

I have been towing my scamp for over 10,000 miles now and have not had any issues. My nx does have the tow package which includes a beefier cooling system. The only think i would say is to watch the tongue weight, the nx doesn't handle that well so if tongue weight is around 200+ you will have to add airbags/weight distribution hitch or the rear will sag considerably. Especially with rear passengers.

They usually won't install the hitch if theres a kick sensor unless you push them.

I just has a hitch installed on 19 NX at UHaul. Kick sensor still works.
