Do I need to have Apple CarPlay installed/downloaded before using CarPlay2air?

This might be a dumb question, but do I need to have Apple CarPlay installed/downloaded before using CarPlay2air? just wanted to make sure before taking my 2018 NX300H to the dealer and paying the $200 for them to install/update my NX with apple CarPlay.

yes, you need carplay enable before you can use wireless. If just using carplay2air will work everyone with 2017 will jump on this.

I did the update myself using a USB and downloading the files from the web. Worked like a charm and saved $200.

If you mean the update from Lexus to enable carplay on your car, yes you need that. As far as the car is concerned carplay2air is just a another USB cable.
