2019 NX - Apple CarPlay Activation?
Hey all,
Just picked up a CPO 2019 NX300 for the wife. Unfortunately it doesn’t have Apple CarPlay, however I was told it can be “activated”
Has anyone ever done this through Lexus service? Is it worth doing? Or are the aftermarket ones a better option?

I just got a 2019 f sport a couple weeks back but CarPlay was already installed by previous owner. I believe the dealer cost to install is $200. There’s the beatsonic version, but it looks like it acts the same but primarily for NXs that cannot upgrade to CarPlay (and it costs more). The other one, which I am considering last of all my mods, would be the 10.25 touchscreen. Newest version is $500-$800 depending on where you buy from. My opinion is that the CarPlay installed by dealer is a good value. It’s wired connection, so you still have to use the mouse pad. I trained myself to use Siri voice command as much as possible, so I rarely use the mouse pad.

I did check yes the option isn’t there. Was told they have to install a chip of some sort. I figured it would be a software add on. Didn’t see it on the build sheet either. However it definitely is compatible.

There is no hardware difference. I added to my 2018 NX using a downloaded file I had found a link to. Saved $200 compared to what dealer was charging, which was a ripoff.
Might want to have a conversation with a service advisor at a Lexus dealer. They might do it next time you bring in for service.

Thanks for the tip on the DIY. Installed the update and bam I now have Apple CarPlay.
Very easy DIY. Took about an hour and saved myself those dealer fees.
