Default Passenger Side Mirror Malfunctioning

Hello,

I noticed the other day that when i try to tilt my side mirror down it makes a noise (tik, tik) and it cannot go any further. I am able to move the mirror in all directions so i believe the motor is working fine, but not sure why it won't go all the way down. Has this happened to anyone or any idea on what it could be? I have a 2016 Lexus NX 200T F Sport.

Typically when this happens, something is stuck back there most likely towards the bottom. If you are in a cold climate like me, ice is my #1 culprit.

Easiest is to tilt the mirror up and towards the car all the way and see if there is enough clearance to peek in and see if anything is obstructing.

I do not recommend removing the glass unless you absolutely have to. It's expensive being both heated and dimming if you crack it. But if you still want to, best trick I use is a strong suction cup and to quickly pull it straight out, there are wires so be careful not to go crazy and yank the wires out too.

Perhaps tilt it to any one side as Lexuswiz suggested, and then maybe put something semi-rigid plastic in there to shake it around and see if you hear something that is 'loose'. My first thought is a coat hanger, but that might be TOO rigid. You'll want something with a little flexibility, and not as firm as a coat hanger.

Big zip tie/cable tie is your ticket here. Works like a charm for me.

We had our first light snow / ice crust snow a few days ago. Didn't like the sound of the mirrors folding out when I unlocked, also had the tick tick you described ( mirrors tilt when in reverse ). All good once the car thawed in the garage. Going to lock out the mirrors when they announce snow/ice for the rest of the winter.
