So you have actually used Victors method on your 2018 NX300?

Yes, I watched the video a few times to make sure I followed the right sequence, took all of 30 seconds after inserting the paper clip ends into the right spots into the OBD connector.
Saves having to manually removing the e-brake motor and manually retracting the piston.

After doing the rear brake job on both sides, follow the few steps to take the brakes out of service mode, remove the paperclip.

Easy Peasy!

Hi Everyone,

So I thought I retracted my ebrake and piston properly. Put in the pads and the ebrake module. Now I have a Parking Brake Malfunction light on and the system is disabled. Any Ideas how to reset the system without taking it to the dealer? I should have put the system in maintenance mode but the first video I watched never mentioned it. ugh

2017 NX200T (7/17)

Thanks

Matt

I know from experience that if you forget to re-attach and connect the wire to the e-brake, you get a nasty malfunction error.

Thank You Roscol,

I will check the connections. However, I never disconnected them. Is there a way to manually reset or clear the error without the scanner? I have a feeling I ripped the code because I never put the system in maintenance mode.

You will need a good scanner or best: there is a reset/learning function in techstream which I ran after I put it first in maintenance mode and then changed the rotors and pads. No codes or warning lights to this day and I've done 2 NX's this way.

Disconnect the battery for several minutes, it always cleared the codes.

A simple paperclip and watching the video will make quick work of replacing your pads and/or rotors on the rear with not much fuss.

Just remember to re-connect the piston electrical connection when completing the work or you’ll get a bunch of error messages, lol.
Hello Roscol. Can you please explain what you mean by "remember to re-connect the piston electrical connection"? I didn't see/hear any reference to this in Viktor's video. Thank you.

He means plugging back in the harness for the electronic motor on the e-brake/rear caliper. Viktor uses the techstream/OBD jump method to release the electronic e-brake by computer and thus, you do not need to remove the motor to get to the screw release for manual release.

I disconnected the electrical connectors for the piston motor assembly after retracting using the paperclip OBD method of Victors.

Just realized now that perhaps it wasn’t necessary , I just assumed it would give more room to move the caliper assembly out of the way while working down there.

So did Victor's method work OK for you and the piston retracted all the way?

Viktor G videos have all been taken down. Do you remember the steps after you put the paper clip jumper in the OBD2 4 and 12 port? If you have the written steps that would be great. Thank you.
