Default 2020 NX TPSM Issue

Hi all - after a couple months of research, I made the switch from a 2015 RAV4 to a 2020 Lexus NX. Literally as I was driving home from the dealer I bought it from (hour and a half away) the TPMS light came on. Didn’t panic - there have been weather changes etc. Checked air - all good. The light blinks for 60 seconds then stays on. No pressure numbers reading out - just dashes.

Anyways, a week later and I brought the car in to my local Lexus dealer today to diagnose. It appears that non-Lexus TPMS sensors have been installed, but it’s not common for the original Lexus ones to go bad after two years. So that’s odd. They wanted $1200 for parts and labor to replace all 4 so they could be reprogrammed with the system. They told me aftermarket ones didn’t sync.

Another twist is, I checked the files from the dealer I bought the car from, and they diagnosed an issue with the TPMS system as part of reconditioning the car before sale, and replaced all 4 sensors! However, clearly the repair wasn’t made correctly, as the light is on…

Anyways, I emailed the dealer I bought the car from to see what they say. It seems my other options (besides paying 1k) are to: 1. Take the car to a tire store and see if they can miraculously program the existing aftermarket sensors or 2. Buy OEM sensors and have the tire store install them.

Thoughts? Anyone have any experience with this?

Correction - Just looked at my invoice for the quote. Dealer was asking $1400 parts and labor.

Only option is to insist they fix the problem for free. If there is a problem with the ECU most tire shops won’t be able to diagnose it. You will have them going in an endless circle wasting both of your time and money. I can’t speak for all manufacturers but there are probably no to very few aftermarket options. A lot of aftermarket sensors will turn the actual tire light off but not show the actual pressures. Besides them not owning up to their responsibility they way over quoted you. I wouldn’t pay more than $100 each sensor installed and programmed to the ECU. So maybe $400 for 4 sensors.
