Default Questions on charging and safety

1. I believe that the18kw battery in the 450H+ is LiIon. These batteries cannot be charged below freezing, probably more like 36*F. So are there battery heaters on those batteries?

2. My wife also is going to drive this 450H+. So what happens when she gets in the car with the charger cable plugged in?

3. Is there a separate battery for the 37mi drive or integrated with the other battery or is this the only battery? So, when the 37 miles is depleted, is the electric portion of the hybrid inoperable or does the main battery now need electrical power from the engine?

1. Lucky I live in Florida and wife despises cold weather. So no travel in winter either. But as to the question, I downloaded the Owners Manual and I don't see one listed.

I'm getting the 450h+ as well.

2. Another person asked this same question yesterday. So you can search and find it. But basically the manual says the car will not start and go into gear so she'll just have to sit there until you come out and unplug it for her.

3. I can't answer that question. I haven't dug that far into it. There is a 12V car battery ad then there is the EV battery to the best of my understanding. Whether there is a battery for EV and another for Hybrid I am clueless.

1. The car will manage the temperature and warm up the battery to charge. You don't need to do anything. There is a setting in the Lexus interface to turn on battery warmers.

2. The car will start, but it won't go into gear. There is a message saying that the charging port is open.

3. The 18.1 kWh battery is called the traction battery or you can call it the hybrid battery. The 37 miles uses that battery and after EV range is depleted, the 18.1 kWh battery still has about 30% capacity for hybrid drive. There are cases where EV range is depleted and it goes to HV mode and later on the EV range will increase as the car will recover energy lost during engine warmup and put it back into the traction battery.

Hope this helps.

In my 12 month update video I did a charge mode demo. You can watch it and see the results.
Starts about 21 mins if you don't want to watch the full video.
