Default Run Flat Tires

I am contemplating buying a 2023 NX 350 Luxur automobile. There is no spare tire, only run flat tires. Are there any problems with this type of tire?
Thanks.

The pro of Run Flats are that you can still drive with them on for limited amount of KM (typically long enough for you to get to a tire shop, look at the tire spec to find out exactly how long you can drive on it for).

The con is that they are typically not fixable and they're loud than their non-Run Flat counterpart.

I was going to change out my RFs, but when I had them installed for the summer season, I find I really don't mind them. Took delivery in February and had the car equipped with 20" wheels and Michelin winter tires, not run flats. The run flats may be a wee bit louder, but not obtrusively so. Glad I didn't bother spending more $$ on a replacement set.

I don’t mind RF tires. Most people say they’re noisy but I don’t notice that. Only thing I don’t like is swapping tires on my own. So ****ing heavy lol

Same here! I also got a dedicated winter set and wheels, which aren't run flat and they were pretty good. I only put my all season RFs back a coupe of weeks ago. Disposing, I don't find them noisy at all. Also even more surprising is in getting really good mileage with them on. I've done a few long commutes (>35kms) since putting them back on and on finding even worth adaptive cruise on, and not particularly trying, I'm averaging 5.4L/100km (that's 43.5mpg for y'all Americans). A few short commutes of between 20-30kms long and I've even achieved 4.4L/100km (53.4mpg) without actively trying.

I find the RFs not to be an issue at all, but I'm definitely switching to regular normal radial tires when these wear out. They too damn heavy and I don't wanna throw out my back swapping tires!😜🤣

Alex on Autos YouTubes IMO best auto reviewer gave the 2023 NX with run flats an A- in cabin noise.

First time poster here. I'm starting to look at a 2024 Luxury. I personally prefer RunFlats. I currently have them on other vehicles. Never had a problem. You will get different opinions. What are you looking to buy? Colors/etc?

Yep saw that too. Meanwhile every other reviewer complains about them. Just like how they complain about the eCVT even though it’s not the same 🙄

My first experience with RF was on a 2011 BMW X3 and I honestly never noticed them to be loud either. I found the tires on my past TLX to be loud. They were 255 tires and I hated how loud they were. My Toyo snow tires were more quiet than those Michelin primacy tires

I am buying a 2023 NX 350 Luxury. Dark grey, leather color interior. Waiting for it to to come in. I currently have a 2018 Volvo XC 60. 10,160 k miles! A"garage queen" Love the car, but it is not under a warranty, and it has held it's value, so I am getting a good deal on the trade in. My wife also has a NX 200 which she drives and loves. Time for a change.

We have 18" run flats. I run winter tires and really didn't notice much of a difference in noise or comfort. The run flats handle more crisply than the softer winters, however. I did purchase the spare tire kit from Modern Spare as we live in a rural area. I only haul it around on long trips though. When these run flats wear out I'll go the traditional route but didn't want to spend the extra money on replacing what seem to be perfectly good tires. I figure with my driving and using the winters 5 months out of the year, I can get at least 2-3 seasons out of the OEMs.

Haha, yeah those damn RFs are heavy. I had my mechanic installed the rear mud guards for me and he was like crap, these are heavy as hell.

My wife's 2024 NX350h have RFs, they are not as noisy as I thought. They may ride a little harder. But I am used to my ES350 with Michelin and the ride, quietness are excellent.
As soon as those RFs wears out, I will buy a set of non-RF Michelins for her and put a spare donut in the trunk.

I have the 450H+ with 20" Run Flats. I am coming from the 21 ES300H with Michelin's and it was quiet as heck.

The 450H+ seems like a harder/stiffer ride and it is a lot of noise above the ES300H we were driving on the same roads. I will admit, I wear hearing aids and it does make things louder for sure. But with all things being equal, there is a louder noise with these tires.

I too have the Modern Spare Kit and carry it when going long distance. Don't have it in the cargo area now as it's close enough to town should the need arise. I WILL be purchasing Pirelli's here pretty quick. We have 1,428 miles on the vehicle.
