Does yours work if the NX is off/not running? If the NX is off and window is down ....if you reached in and pressed the HL button will the door open.

Asking as a What if... what if the NX is in the driveway... a bad guy breaks a window and tries to open the garage door. Mine seemed to be active (no I did not break a window). Does the HL power down after a few minutes or if doors are locked.

I believe it is always active. Doesn't seem right does it?

Not right... most of the cars we had shut the HL down after turning engine off. Thanks for confirming... now I know...I'm in a good neighbor hood but who knows.

I’ve asked this for years.

However if you have the garage remote in the car, same difference.

Have a friend who said their Audi did not work when the car is off.

Correct... and that can be a problem.

Looks like you're going to do it the old fashion way. Put it in park, get out and go manually open the door and then get back in and pull into the garage. Then go manually close the garage door.

I love my wife, my cars (notice the order) but I hate my garage. Single car that’s tough to get in/out. It’s easier to leave cars in driveway and use garage for enter/exit. I’m leaving the Homelink programmed.

I know what you mean. Our home is 1,150 SqFt. 2bed/2bath on half acre. It too has a 1 car garage. We downsized to 1 car as well. But we do have a double wide car port. I use it to clean the car under.

But I never really thought about the HomeLink being always hot. But it makes sense when you think of it like a regular garage door opener is always hot. It would be nice though to have it off when no key is present. I just tried my 450H+ and it is always hot. 🥴

At least the handheld transmitter can be removed...taken into house, etc. Fortunately I'm in a good neighborhood. The bad guys are looking for change, wallets, golf clubs.
I'm jealous of your carport. Nice thing to have. My last carport was a tree that dropped sap, berries, bird doo.

Our carport is full of lizards, spiders and scorpions. But they all run when the pressure washer comes out.

I have a digital keypad mounted on the side of the garage to open/close and my opener ( LiftMaster) also has a phone app to open/ close.

Depending on your opener you can add one or both of these options.

Also gives you the history of the door

@RKF350 Okay I have both, outside garage door opener and Liftmaster app. I’m not following you as to what you are saying. “Add one or both of these options” to what?

I use my HomeLink button to control my garage door. I typically use the outside keypad when I’m outside and want to go into the garage. So I’m not sure what you are trying to say. Sorry 😞

I read what they posted to assume that you had neither and that you could add the app option and use it instead of the built in Homelink.

Gotcha. I use the app (when I remember it). I primarily use it when I'm away to make sure the door is closed. I went out of town one day and forgot to close the door when we left. The neighbor found it open and called me. He closed it for me and I got the app then. Comes in handy.

If you park outside of your garage you could clear the Homelink codes in your car and strictly use just the phone app.

This would prevent someone from entering the garage if they broke into your car.
