Tesla sold 105,000 model Ys just in q2! More sales than the rav4.
I think they’re some ‘issue’ with Tesla’s sales numbers as they’re self reported rather than through dealer numbers (???).
Also some may not consider the model y a ‘luxury’ vehicle?

I’m surprised how well the RX sells given its relatively high price point.

You know what?? Now that I think about it - both. I love my RX and it's mainly what we drive when we go anywhere together or out of town. Right after we got the 22 NX 350 we didn't really like it and half-assed considered dumping it. But we got used to it and are resolved to keeping it. Mainly because we're just too lazy to put in the effort and dollars to swap. However - the biggest things we don't like about it are now part of the RX so if we were buying current models from scratch I'm not sure what we'd do.

The original post cited SUV sales. I'm not all that familiar with tesla but most I see are lower cost sedans.

When I'm about to buy a new Lexus. I will ask my service manager to get a loaner. And ask to see if I can get the model I plan on buying. That gave me a chance to drive around in a NX while my RX was in the shop. My problem was I couldn't get a new model NX during covid. They were all spoken for before delivery.
Ended up getting a GX. Have about 16 months left on the CPO warranty. Hopefully I will be able to get one then

The Model Y is the recently reported to be the best selling car in the world for 2023. Not the best selling ev, not the best selling SUV, The best selling car. Period.

I've got peace of mind knowing I'm driving the safest car ever made, the safest car sold today... by far.
All while never having to lift a finger to do any kind of oil changes.
compares nicely to the RX in terms of room, despite having a smaller exterior footprint! the beauty of a dedicated EV platform.
Also the 3/Y platform is young so not a lot of high mileage owners yet but this guy went 300,000 miles on all original everything. and didn't lift a finger for any maintenance. and that's a first year model... teslas made massive improvements year after year.

A group of japanese test engineers tested Model Y and they commented that at first they thought the car would be a joke since they never experienced one but after they tested it, they had major respect for it asked if this was alien space technology. it absolutely destroyed everything in a long list of cars, except for one dedicated lightweight race car. it destroyed namely, the Porsche GTS equivalent, in emergency lane changes in the wet, emergency high speed braking while turning in the wet etc. the high end computers/algorithms and hardware are no joke. same for moose test etc.

I've wanted a model Y since the day it was first announced. I love the power train and onboard tech, but the vehicle body was such that I could never pull the trigger. I can forgive Tesla's retro 90s never changing styling cuz I realize as a new car company they have a lot more important things to do than make new body panel creases every 3 years, but I just couldn't do an interior that looks more like my dentist's office that a car. My NX already doesn't have enough "driver" styling for me that I would prefer, let alone the big nothing on the 3 and Y. I put it in the same category as what a Citroen DS would look like if made today. Both amazing cars in their time, just not quite what I want.

Agree 100%. Everything I post is what a mass amount of owners through Consumer Reports or J D Power reflect on quality or dependability. This for what it is worth is my opinion. Tesla's are the most boring and plain looking exteriors of any manufacturer. Only thing uglier is their interiors. Just got back shopping in my wife's 2023 NX 350h and parked next to a Model Y. If you took 100 people that knew nothing about cars and asked them to pick which one was the luxury SUV 100 would pick the NX. Consumer Reports says the NX350h is the top pick for luxury SUV in the $45-$55,000.
