Ever fill up a gas can in your life? You do know it's only 85% full when you hit the "do not fill past this line", right? Well... gas tanks in cars are the same.

I squeeze in at least 2 additional gallons into OUR 14.5 gallon tank.

Oh... AND - not only is there room for another few gallons... there is typically a few gallons left when your car reads 0 miles left. So... you can do the math

The issue here is that the extra space at the top is meant to allow for some expansion of fuel. The fuel comes out of underground tanks probably at around 55F. If you hyperfill then leave your car in 100F with zero space to expand, then the tank pressure could potentially force liquid fuel into the charcoal canister. If that happens the canister might be ruined and trigger CEL. Might not have an issue if you immediately set out on road trip, but I would suggest not doing this if the car will sit in the hot sun for a long time immediately afterwards. This is a bit like constantly eating triple cheeseburgers, some people can get away with it, others can't.

Yeah, I know it is potentially bad... but so many years of doing it. AND... reason I do it, I can get away with filling up 1 time per week versus 2. Makes it easy to just fill up over the weekends.

I don't want to belabour this topic or hijack the thread, but just for clarity and for those that may read this in the future, attached is a screen shot from the Lexus Canada web site, just now. The NXh starts at $850.00 less the non hybrid does. Not sure where your $6000.00 premium comes from. Maybe the 450h? But not the regular hybrid.

I paid about $42K for my wifes base model. My 2024 Luxury - I got over $6K off sticker.

Also, not sure where I said "premium" - what I wrote was I saved $6000 off MSRP of the car... versus MSRP where I see most hybrids at. Or above... or a 500 day wait

Always has been cheaper, but only because the base 350h is more base than the base 350. If you look at the option pkg prices, the same pkg on the hybrid is typically $2000 more than the same pkg on the turbo. When I bought mine, the base hybrid was thousands less, but the option pkgs were at least $5000 more for the same thing. They have jiggled the prices a bit, but its still a bit of a bait and switch unless you plan to buy a base 350h.

You guys are giving me hopes of seeing upper 300's on my next fill up. I'll try to squeeze in that extra 2 gallons in once the pump stops. I wish i could get above 25 mpg but with my drive of lots of traffic lights and slow moving highway traffic I'd doubt I'll ever see it.
I've done some research on NX gas tank and saw that lots of early Rav4's having tank issue popping up. Read that there's a TSB on the Rav4 tanks that if you bring it up and have the tech test it out and it's faulty they will replace the tank at no cost. I know that the Rav4 and the NX shares lots of the same parts because they are on the same TNGA platform, hopefully I didn't get a faulty tank. My built date is on 01/23.

Let's try to simplify this. The gas tank is 14.5 gallons. When people refill their tank they get around 12.5 gallons. That would say there is around 2 gallons for reserve. If you fill with an additional 2 gallons to fill the bottle neck are you saying there is now 16.5 gallons? Maybe I'm confused!!!

Nope - you’re correct. I’d tend to think it’s even bigger than that.

Low fuel warning comes on around 185-195 typically. Lifetime average ~15.6 MPG

Unhappy

my tank still has 2.8 gallons using 11.7 from 14.5 gallon tank when it shows 0 (zero) miles left. I think this is far too conservative and will speak with Lexus dealer about adjusting on my next service.

That's a ton of miles left over.
