Just some musings - tbh I don't really pay much attention to DTE display until I get low on fuel and far from home (sorry my US friends, I can't be bothered to convert ALL of this to US). My best full tank so far has been 7.5, my worst has been 9.6. On a 55L tank, say maybe 10L is considered reserve (I'm assuming thats approx what the DTE uses). On 45L at 7.5 that works out to 600km or 372 miles. My worst, 9.6, thats 469km or 290 miles. I'm pretty good with that, it tracks pretty closely with my older gen RX hybrid with its V6 (you don't want to know what the 3rd gen RX non-hybrids got for FE).

Filling it up normal, when the pump shuts off, I got 353 actual miles on the last tank. It showed 12 left. I won’t normally run it that low. It showed 335 for range once full. That was 85% (guessing) short highway trips, like 10-35 miles, the rest city but no major traffic jams. Minimal drive through, 28.0 mpg.

Your playing a very dangerous game by over fill the gas tank.

You can end up saturating the charcoal canister with gas and it would need to be replaced.

Charcoal canisters are expensive to replace.

My advice, just don't play this game.

agreed.

the only time I have ever been involved in over filling one was on a race car that no longer had the charcoal canister. It had a stock gas tank with the expansion chamber, and the race was a 12 hour endurance race. We leaned the car up at about a 30* angle with the filler neck high. And put several extra gallons in. Maybe 5.

I was just crew, not my car and I wasn’t driving. But we won with fumes left in the tank. Just a minute or two ahead of the next car. Odds are we would have finished second had my buddy not thought of that as another pit stop would have been at least that much time.
