Default DIY: NX450h+ Dashboard Speakers & Subwoofer Replacement

Here you go for sharing.

Mine is a 2022 450h+ without the Mark Levinson System.
Purchased mine CPO with 7K miles a month ago.
First order of business is audio system.

Just like most cars, the stock speakers are just plain crap. Muddy, dull sounding, lifeless.
Reached out to Crutchfield, per their database / installation master sheet, front dashboard speakers are 3.5".
Well that is incorrect. Front corners & center speakers are all 4".

Stock subwoofer is also mediocre at best.
Magnet is so small, entire assembly after I removed it weighed about a pound.

So I replaced all 3 dashboard speakers and replaced the trunk subwoofer and it is night and day difference.
Sound is now crisp, clear and alive.

Amazing tight bass from Infinity Basslink Mini.
Even my boss at home is very impressed in the improvement of sound.

Tip, before replacing speakers, set all your tone controls to flat/center.Summary:

1) Front dashboard speakers (corners and center speakers) are not 3.5".
All three are 4".

Perfect fit are Alpine S2-S40 midrange speakers.
Installer will need to break off the two extra side speaker mounting tabs.

2) Tool required for speaker screws are 10mm, not 7mm.

3) Metra speaker connector adapters 72-8109 works on all locations including subwoofer speaker connector.

4) A very good subwoofer that will fit in the original subwoofer location is Infinity Basslink Mini.

Remove the original sub, mount the Infinity basslink on the same location.
Installer will need to drill one hole and use existing one bolt from removed stock subwoofer to mount the infinity basslink.
Owner will also need to install thick high temp rubber pad underneath the sub to prevent rattling and also to protect the subwoofer from metal floor of the trunk. See photos.

Hope that helps.

Dan

Hi a2023LC500, nice clean job! I've already replaced my dash speakers, and I'm interested in the subwoofer option you mentioned. Could you please provide details on how you wired up the Infinity Basslink Mini? Thanks.

Thanks!

Here you go:1. Purchase a Power Amp Wiring Kit. It will come with a fuse.

2. Hook up +12V amplifier power wire to positive terminal of battery.

3. Attach an inline fuse about 16 inches from positive terminal of battery.

4. Connect fused +12V battery power wire to +12 red wire of power amp.

5. Connect power amp ground wire to one of the bolts removed from stock subwoofer. Ensure it is a good ground and ensure bare metal connection.

6. Using Metra speaker connector adapter 72-8109, connect it to OE subwoofer connector.
Splice these pair of wires to Power Amp Line Input Wiring. You only need one pair of connection to power amp as the inputs are wired in parallel inside the power amp.

Set the Infinity Basslink Mini Auto Turn On switch (push in the switch) to Line Sensing for automatic shut off when there is no audio signal.

7. Connect the Infinity Basslink remote wiring and volume control and mount it somewhere in the trunk where its easy to access to fine tune the bass volume. Or you can run the cables & volume control somewhere in the dashboard. I chose to mount mine just in the trunk as I after I fine tune the bass volume I don’t really need to adjust it any longer.

8. Ensure all your head unit tone controls are flat / center position.

9. Follow the Infinity Basslink Mini for further sound tuning instructions.

10. Note: for accurate tight bass, I don’t recommend using the bass boost. I have mine set at minimum.

Please see attached Infinity Basslink Owners Manual.

Hope that helps.

Dan

Hi Thanks a lot for the helpful information. I am planning to install the same set of speakers. Looks like I need to buy two pairs and wondering if you have one extra and if so I would like to buy.

Great thread and much appreciated! Would you consider this a semi-easy project? Any special tools to access the speakers? Thanks

The dashboard speaker replacement is super easy. Lift up the speaker grill screen, remove two screws, remove OE speaker, drop in new speaker, reinstall speaker grill screen and you are done. Literally takes about 5 minutes per speaker.

The subwoofer is easy too: Remove all trays in trunk, remove OE sub, place high temp rubber mats and install Infinity basslink mini subwoofer.
Hook up the power and groud, hook up speaker input, install the sub volume trim, restore everything and you are done.

Hope that helps.

The OE subwoofer is on the left side of the battery. You will need to remove all the trunk trays and sidewall trims to see the OE subwoofer.

My reply to you was deleted by the moderator as he said my for sale item belongs in classifieds.
I am not selling anything.

Please message me so I can answer your question.

Default Pioneer

I went with the Pioneer TS-WX400DA subwoofer. I wanted the infinity one, but it was on back order everywhere. I'm am very happy with the performance of the pioneer and can't believe the bass this tiny little guy makes. Tight, deep but little punch. Combined with my dash speaker upgrade, I am now very happy with the audio.

Can someone please post pictures of how to take out the subwoofer? I was able to take the 3 bolts out but still was not able to pull it out. Thanks a lot for the help!

For anyone looking to replace the dash speakers, I was able to use infinity reference 4032cfx and they fit and sound good as well. Thanks to @a2023LC500 for the helpful pointers.

Wouldn't the subwoofer sound better if mounted above the rear hatch subpanels? Maybe a better location would be where the NX1 was located where to cargo netting was placed?
