Default Engine sound and tire noise

Lots of reviewers noticed how coarse and unrefined the 4-cylinder sounded when the car switches over from EV to HV mode. This bothered me also (coming from a super smooth Camry V6). Now, after about 8K miles later on my '23 NX450H+ (and guessing about 5K of that is on the gas engine), the engine sounds much better; the coarseness seems to have mostly gone after this "break-in". I wonder if others have noticed anything similar or am I imagining it?

Another complaint (e.g., from the Car Care Nut) was how loud the run flats were. I never thought this criticism was justified, but now they run as quiet as I would expect or hope. When tire change time comes around, I will definitely not avoid these Bridgestone run flats.

I don’t have the hybrid, so I can’t comment on engine noise for the drivetrain. I didn’t really mind run flat noise or ride. Not great, but acceptable. Once mine wore out I went with Michelin Cross Climate 2 and the difference is amazing. Much quieter and a softer ride without loss of road feel. I would have also considered Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3 as my wife had those on an Equinox, but they don’t make those in the correct size for 20” rims.

Nothing wrong with sticking with stock, but you may want to compare prices and mileage warranties. My RF’s only made it about 20k miles.

I have noticed that the engine is not as coarse when I'll driving in normal mode over eco mode. If you don't push it beyond the power band you don't notice it as much as well.

You find eco mode louder than normal mode?

H'mm this seems very strange. Maybe the sounds are really the same in the power band and during ECO mode you are actually running quieter most of the time. Anyway RFTs with heavier weight and heavier sidewalls will always be louder but RFTs give some people peace of mind.

When I replace my 20 inches , it will be absolutely non-RFTs and I will look ate three key factors: (shown in order of importance, first most important) : (1) high UGQT rating, (2) Quietness, and (3) Low Tire Weight.

YMMV,

I think it's because in eco mode, I tend to press the gas pedal more which pushes the car into the power band. Whereas in normal, I don't need to press as hard and it touches the power band. That could be the reason why it's less coarse.

I've seen others say this as well, that they got about 20K out of their runflats. But mine are about to hit 25K, and I'm pretty sure there's at least another 10K miles left in them. Do we all have Bridgestone Alenzas? Or are there multiple tire suppliers?

Also, I'm not particularly gentle in driving, either...I get about 40K-50K miles out of standard tires on my other vehicles, in line with most people.

I think it depends on the model of NX you own. The NX hybrids torque from the electric motors could be one cause of the run flats not lasting as long.

Mine were the Alenzas on a non-hybrid and about 60% highway miles, so decent roads. I’m certainly not an aggressive driver, but not a grandpa driver either.

I look forward to quieter softer ride, I was considering swapping out my 20s for 18s.

Wife 2023 NX 350h and the vehicle is quiet. Alex on Autos probably YouTubes beat known auto reviewer rates the NX an A- in cabin noise. I have a 2024 RX 350h no runflats and it is quieter but not by much.
