Default Radar Detector Hardwiring and Mounting

This hasn't been asked in a while but I wanted to see recommendations on how everyone is mounting and hardwiring their radar detector. I just purchased a Uniden R8 and trying to see what creative ways everyone is installing them. Pictures and links are much appreciated.

Yes! I've seen your guide and definitely going to follow it. I wanted to ask what cable ends did you end up using from the pack? I ended up buying the pack that only came with the flat ends. Also did you find any other way to mount the radar detector?

I ended up using one of the smaller taps included in the MTX-1015 kit. The wires in the connector that you are tapping into are pretty small. The ones you have look a little on the large side. The small taps I selected slid in with a slight bit of tension but nothing crazy.

I'm using the Escort EZ mag mount which is similar to your R8's. It has held strong and hasn't given me any issues. It's up and out of the way at the top of the windshield so I really have no complaints.

Thank you for all the info I had to re order the hardwire kit you had. It took a while to get the wires to properly go in but it finally worked. I'm a little worried that the ground didn't go in all the way, could this be a problem? If I'm correct the radar detector wouldn't power on if the circuit wasn't complete?(look at photos below). Also did you do anything to properly secure the cables to the white block? I used electrical tap to secure the wires to the bigger cable.

Looks good, nice job! You can try to give the ground tap another firm push but don't force too hard as they can break. You are correct, so long as the radar detector powers up/down properly and you don't lose power while driving and hitting bumps you should be good. I just used the one zip tie to secure the taps end of the cable as seen in my install thread. I made sure to give it a tiny amount of slack so the taps would not pull out when I secured the zip tie.
