I recently read that Volvo is doing a mid-year upgrade to the 2022 XC60 Recharge (PHEV). They're upgrading the battery (from 11.6kWh to 18.8kWh) and rear electric motor (from 85hp to 145hp). That should bring the overall electric range to around 30 miles and the overall power to 455HP. A dealer suggested vehicles produced Q4 2021 or Q1 2022 should include the new battery/electric motor. I'd previously written off the XC60 Recharge on account of its limited electric range, but it now seems competitive. The two base models are similarly priced (XC60 Inscription Expression with an Advanced Package is roughly $56,500 via Volvo's OSD program) and the NX450h+ is $55,560.

Are others in market for a PHEV considering these two vehicles? If so, any thoughts on how they compare? I understand Volvo's reliability pales in comparison to Lexus, but it also seems like the XC60 is the roomier and more powerful of the two. I also like that I can order the Volvo at MSRP, whereas my ability to get the 450h+ at MSRP is unclear.

The NX 450h+ at $56K is actually not the base trim. It starts with the Luxury trim at that price. I wish I can take $4-5K off and get a Premium trim or Base trim for less than $50K, but I get why Lexus is only offering the top spec for now.

As for the refreshed XC60 Recharge, it looks good on paper and should have the edge in performance, but like you said already, you get a Lexus over other European competition for a few long-term reasons. Both are good options.
