Default 18" vs 20" Tire

I may be getting the 350h in Canada with luxury package which includes the 20" rim, I would prefer the 18" stock rim.

Has anyone driven an 18" and 20" on the 2022 NX especially the 350h or 450h+. My number one concern is ride quality, I am concern of the 20" run flat tire being noisy and more uncomfortable then it should be.

Thanks

I test drove two NX vehicles the other day, but neither was a hybrid - one was a 350 with 18" wheels, and the other was a 350 F Sport with 20" wheels.

I wasn't specifically focusing on tire noise when I drove, but I don't recall tire noise being an issue. The ride in both vehicles was very good, the F Sport being slightly better with the fancy suspension stuff, but the regular 350 was perfectly fine. I should also note that I didn't get either vehicle onto the open highway, I was on local roads where I got up to about 60 MPH.

Jadeboy,

I think the Lexus ride will be pretty comfortable and you will be pleased. Several of the video reviews have said the ride is comfortable. Granted the F Sport Handling will be a little firmer, but that is what you are looking for in the FSport Handling package, for better driving control.

Having said all that, when the time comes to replace the tires ( and I understand run-flat tires have a shorter tread life), I plan to replace my run-flats with regular tires which will provide some additional level of comfort. One tire I am considering now ( there are many choices now and will probably be a lot more when the time to replace tires comes) is the Michelin PRIMACY A/S 235 50R20 100V

Good Luck with your comfortable ride.

YMMV,

A short test drive usually doesn't take you to the problem places. It goes to the nice quiet roads if they're around.

The likely problem with the 20" tires will be when they connect with a pothole or you drive a less well maintained road, something the recent rains have not improved in California.

In other words, the 20" tires make me nervous too.

When test drove the NX I suspected that the tire pressure higher than what should be in the tires.

After our purchase, the next morning, I checked the air pressure. It was at 42, cold! The door frame states 33. I like to run a little higher so I have 36.

The only issue I can see with replacing the run flats with regular tires is that there is no spare. I can’t recall the last time I ever used a spare but….

we personally like the look of the 18” wheels.

We got the 350h a few days ago with the 20" Bridgestone tires and ride quality was my number one concern so was not happy at all getting the 20" tires. With 118 miles so far we are surprised and pleased with the ride quality although we have nothing to compare it to. The size is 235/50R20 and with the 50% aspect ratio vs 60% on the 235/60R18 tires the sidewall is 1 inch narrower which means less sidewall to absorb sound and bumps. And to add injury to insult they come with run flats so it is perplexing to me why anyone would want the 20" tires and why they are pushing them. They even added them as an extra cost item on our Premium and we had no choice but to accept them as part of the delivered package.
