The kick sensor is part of the Premium and above packages, NOT part of the $400 power lift gate option for the base model.
I did no wiring for I only use it for my bike rack. I did not even mount the wire harness bracket that would hang down in the way. The wiring is a separate package at about the same cost as the hitch. It looks like a big task to install and unnecessary for my needs. Besides, the rated trailer towing is a joke at 1500 and 2000 lbs, while the Rav4 can tow upwards of 3500 lbs depending on model. No clue why, same chassis and drive train.
BTW, the factory activity mount (1-1/4" receiver) is extremely well made, and a bit less costly. Plus you won't need to remove the bumper cover. You are limited to 1-1/4" receiver size bike racks, but there are lots of well made ones out there.
i will just do the oem hitch sans wiriing and let the shop do the install. i prefer the 2 inch racks, for less wobble especially ebikes and surrons. good to know i dont need that other sensor part
This weekend I just picked up a very lightly used Curt Rav4 trailer hitch #13416 off FB market for $100 locally. The guys was returning his leased Rav4 and was selling some accessories. I picked it up knowing that the Rav4 and NX share the same TNGA platform so if it doesn't fit I'll could just relist it. Curt websites claims it doesn't fit the NX but it does. Only thing is the hitch is visible and the end of the trailer hitch slightly touch the lower part of the bumper and it kinda protrude a little; it doesn't bother me much though. But the awesome thing is that my kick sensor works flawlessly, it works with every kick. I did have to swap the exhaust hangers with the Rav4 hanger that I pick up at my local toyota dealership for $15 each and bought some walker exhaust hanger support #35725 off amazon for $1.49 each.
For you Virginia folks, i saw this listing on FB market in Ruther Glen, VA.
I would believe it'll be the same as the Lexus oem hitch, NX and Rav4 shares the same platform. Just got to do your own research for fitment. Seller is asking $250, probably could make an offer for $200.
I thought I'd chime in since I recently added the OEM hitch (without wiring harness) to my 2024 NX450h+ F-Sport. None of the aftermarket ones say they'll work with the F-Sport so I bought the one from Lexus and had a good body shop do the install for me. Surprisingly, my kick-to-open rear gate still works (see pics). We had to be careful with the wires for the sensor when cutting the panels, and re-routed the wires so they overlap now. The kick to open isn't perfect, but it still works most of the time. I was resigned to it not working at all, so I'm pleased with what I got. The install required removing and cutting the bumper, so I'm glad I didn't attempt it myself. I've put hitches on my cars before, but never when I had to take stuff apart beyond dropping a muffler. It didn't change my departure angle or clearance, which makes me happy. Looks pretty clean. No change to departure angle. Highlighting the sensor and the re-worked wiring. The circled part is the kick sensor. Tow hitch replaces the aluminum bumper (now on the floor).
I estimate Hybrid will be 5-6 hours due not having to run power all the way from the front.
Took my time on the install, been working on cars, motorcycles as a hobby for 20 years/professional maybe 10. I had all the right tools. I modified the Hybrid harness on a Gas cause I ordered the wrong one. Everything was straight forward and a breeze. Also took several coffee breaks texted my girl made some phone calls all in all really happy with the outcome and can probably be done faster.
Question for all of you to put the wiring in, I used to leave my cable inside the trunk unless I was towing the RV/Boat, the 4 wires cable is flat and can easily go under the door for my Sienna (I just need to be careful to adjust the length to connect the trailer). I get it when you do the factory harness but for the aftermarket one, why expose the cable outside and also leave a hole at the bottom of the vehicle which may cause the water leak later?
Yes, many on rav4world do this to keep it clean and damage free. Popular is to route the main cable into the small storage hatch, and use a generic extension to go outside. That way, if the extension gets too dirty or damaged, just throw it away and get another. I don't know if the storage hatch lid has as much gap to let the extension pass thru long term undamaged, but the rest of the time, the main harness is out of the way from everyday junk in the trunk. I've done it on other suv's and car trunks, many in my family do this also.
