Default Expensive hitch

Ouch, $1100. That’s pretty steep for a hitch. Might have to wait for one available through UHall or similar..

I had a custom made hitch installed on my Nx 450h with a 2" receiver from a local trailer hitch shop. They bolted it to the frame so that I can remove it in the future. Only the receiver shows, cross support is hidden behind the real bumper and it supports 2,000 pounds. I only use it for my bike rack. Cost was $525. Very pleased. Took about 2 hours to install and tailgate still opens with my foot!

Did they have to remove any of the plastic or aluminum shielding underneath?

I posted a pic of my Activity Rack (not the Tow Hitch) at: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/nx-...oss-rails.html

There was a LOT of confusion at the dealer about its availability. Supposedly the Tow Hitch won’t be available for the hybrids (I have a 350h) but based on the confusion with the Activity Rack and Cross Rails, I don’t know if that’s true.

The Activity Rack is okay (1.25” receiver), not great for using a Thule bike rack. See my post.

Custom hitch bolted to frame. Support structure is hidden.

Confirmed. The activity mount does not prevent using the kick sensor. And I also had a 2 in bike rack so purchased a 2 in - 1.25 in converter. I had planned to leave the converter on the car but that DID mess with the kick sensor. So, I left the converter mounted to the bike rack which I only put on a couple of times per month.

I guess there must be some regional availability for the activity mount. I’ve called several dealers in the Los Angeles area and they don’t show it available or even listed in whatever list they check

I got my custom built hitch from Eckharts Trailer Hitch & Welding, Inc. SINCE 1944 in the San Fernando Valley. Cost was $525 installed. Kick sensor works fine and I got a 2" receiver. I only use it with a bike rack but I am told I could tow 2,000 lbs.

Looks like a nice job on the car. Did you go to the Mission Hills or Reseda location for the hitch install?

Work was done at Reseda location. Very pleased with work. Had them bolt on just in case warranty issue with car (not from hitch but some thing else). Price was higher at Mission Hills.

I got told by my dealer yesterday that the actual Lexus tow hitch would NEVER be available for the 350h

To get a bike rack on the car, I then ordered an activity mount from a local dealer. They just cancelled my order with no reasoning! Waiting on a call back about that one!

gadgetguy's custom hitch got me thinking, so I reached out to a local custom hitch fabricator. Still waiting to hear back from them as well. This is getting quite frustrating!

However when I check the vehicle specs within the Lexus app it shows the towing package as a factory installed equipment. It also shows up as factory equipment on the online Lexus VIN lookup tool.

My car does not have the optional activity mount, which I assume would have been dealer/port installed. This makes me believe the activity mount and towing package are not the same and separate options.

Hello, I work at a Lexus Dealership as a parts person. This my first post and I'm just here trying to help out. From my understanding, yes there is a tow package available from factory but only for the cars equipped with it from factory. We don't install any hitches nor can we even order them because we don't want people putting the hitches on without the upgraded radiator, and trans oil cooler because we don't want people towing when their vehicle is not properly equipped for it. Also, the rear bumper sensors are in different positions on the tow package one because the sensors, especially with bikes with go crazy.
