Wireless Charging
#61
I tried my mom's iPhone XR yesterday and it did the same thing... charged for maybe 30 seconds, then the light started flashing. So this isn't just a "new phone camera bump MagSafe" problem.
Today I whipped up a prototype MagSafe charger tray insert. This is pretty specific to the iPhone 13 and 14, mostly because of the cutouts I made for the camera bumps. It fits an Apple or same-sized aftermarket MagSafe puck, with a cable slot in the bottom to bring the semi-hidden cable to the notch in the charger tray. I will use a USB-C fast charger in the 12V port inside the cubie underneath to keep the cabling hidden. I'll test it out this weekend and make some tweaks to the design (already needed to modify the model in a few ways). Once I get this dialed in I'll upload this to printables for anyone to download and 3D print.

I used the original Google Pixel 6 Pro case and it was fine. I bought a Caselogic case which was thicker and it didn't charge. I bought a thinner case Spigen Thin Fit for the 6 Pro and it charges well now.

A unicorn here: I took delivery last month and have no issues charging my iPhone 14 pro max. It also seems like there is some sort of grip on the charging pad that does not allow it to move while driving. I use a clear thin Totallee case on my phone. Perhaps changes are slowly being made on the newly manufactured cars. Not sure how true it is, but I saw in an NX Facebook group that someone from the Atlanta area was told there is an upgrade available for the charging pad and they took their car to a local dealership (Hennessy Atlanta) for install. Apparently, there’s a part that needs to be replaced (#: 861C0- F6010). Maybe inquire to see the legitimacy of this statement.

I wonder if you can tell the old and new parts apart by looking at them. I do want to make sure my NX has the updated one. Anyone want to take closeup pictures to compare?

Picked up my NX a couple of weeks ago, 2023 model. No issues with the wireless charging (knock on wood) so far. Approx +30% after 45 minutes of driving, phone not in use. iPhone 13 mini with a Apple genuine MagSafe leather case.

@CaptAngry Do you have a link to the printables upload? I have an iPhone 13 Pro and wife has iPhone 14 Pro Max. Would it be compatible with both?

Exactly what I did with my Pixel 6 Pro. I got the Spigen Thin Fit case for my 6 Pro and it can now change with no issues, but my iPhone 14 Pro with Spigen magsafe thin case still does not work.

For those with access to a 3D Printer, I uploaded my janky model to Printables. Feel free to use as is or mod as you see fit

I tried the Spigen thin fit mentioned above for my pixel 6. It’s a nice case, but didn’t help my charging issues much at all. I used to get about 20 seconds before it stops charging, now I get about 30 seconds. YMMV.

Has anyone tried something like this before and have positive experience? Would really like to know how well this would fit on top of the crappy wireless charging pad we have on the NX.

Thanks to that facebook thread - I went to my dealership and they replaced my Wireless charging pad (450h+ 2/2022) with the updated model (861C0-F6010) and so far it has been working for me with my iPhone 12 Pro with a Apple MagSafe case on. It certainly is not the fastest charging, but at least it charges... it will occasionally report it had stopped, but will then start right back up on it's own.
