After a little practice I found that pressing the brake peddle allowed me to switch from neutral to drive. My initial problem was primarily due to having a big truck in the car wash behind me. Seeing that truck coming for me in the rear view mirror while I could not switch out of neutral was a little terrifying. In other words, I panicked. Test out switching from neutral to drive while pressing your brake peddle (not in the car wash). If this does not work then you do probably have a legitimate mechanical problem requiring involvement of a Lexus dealer.
