Default LOVE my car, but beware, not much ground clearance...

Went to my grandson‘s lacrosse game yesterday, my wife stayed home and she wanted me to get strawberries at the fruit stand; on the way home I pulled over off the little highway onto the shoulder but the drop down from the road to the shoulder was about 3 inches and I heard the most horrible scrape I’ve ever heard, I thought I was stuck there but I managed to turn the wheel just slightly and put it in reverse and back up with no more sounds or scraping.

Got out and looked and no damage to the front at all and I don’t even really see any scrape damage to the bottom plate other than slight scratches which cant be seen unless you are under the car. If I got away with this causing no damage it will be amazing but so far that seems to be the case.

The scrape sound was so loud the woman at the fruit stand jerked her head over to look and see what the noise was.

Again, LOVE my car, but there is not a lot of clearance. Just thought I would let others know.

I used to have an Audi A4 Avant that made our NX's look like they had as much ground clearance as a Jeep Wrangler on 40's. Well, obviously not really. But the NX's definitely have more.

Yeah, I dont know what standard clearances are on SUV or crossovers, and I usually gauge these things by sight, and this didn't look like it was gonna be an issue but it was also the minimal angle I had to turn off on due to the surroundings. Had I been able to turn the wheel far more initially while I was driving off the road, it would not have been a problem.

Compared to my 2015 RX I'm concerned with the approach angle and am worried about hitting a parking block.

Yes that RX has plenty of clearance. To scratch it you would have to hit a big rock.

Happened again yesterday, turning into parking lot with a normal driveway and drove in slowly at an angle that normally would cause no problems and I heard the scrape.

LOL come on, you must hit something, slow down more or stop completely and evaluate the situation, don't keep driving at a "normal" speed..., just kidding but I can't imagine how do you drive a smaller car such as a mid-size sedan, LOL, that car may need new front bumpers replaced every month...

On the another hand, your front suspension may have problem where it bounces too low, check it out...

I actually am quite an experienced driver with various cars SUVs pick ups and believe it or not at one time a race car. The bottom of the car where the plate is behind the bumper is what is hitting the driveway and the other day the shoulder road situation. Not hitting the bumper itself at all. This has never happened to me in any other car that I’ve owned including sedans and SUVs like a Toyota hybrid highlander. Or my wife’s former BMW three series.

I am not complaining I’m just noting it.

I also always go into a driveway or any change in road height at an angle to minimize any contact.
