Default OEM Rims vs Aftermarket

Like many of us up north, it's getting close to that time of the year. We get a decent amount of snow here so a winter set in my opinion is a must have. With the inventory challenges, I have been doing my research early and comparing options of Lexus OEM rims vs aftermarket brands like RTX, Fast Wheels etc...
My NX stock wheels will be 20 and I plan to downgrade to 18s for winter.

What's the difference in the terms quality, OEM vs aftermarket? Does anyone know the price of stock 18inch OEM rims?

Just buy used rims for winters...be it factory OEM or aftermarket. There's nothing special about OEM rims...just get same offset, CB and bolt pattern.

Get it fraction of the price and rims like exhaust don't really matter if it's new or used

Not sure how you think there's nothing special about the new NX rims???
These NX wheels and the new IS's so far that I know of are the first and ONLY Lexus wheels to take tapered 14mm lug bolts to hold them on.

All other previous OEM Lexus's take a flat washered mag style lug NUT on a 12mm stud. They will NOT be interchangeable.
It would be hard to find used ones on a year old vehicle to fit these. New oem NX wheels are overpriced IMO for what they are.

Most aftermarket wheels however are made for tapered lug nuts and tapered lug bolts if the taper angle matches the lug bolt angle and thread length.

My old BMW M3 used tapered lug bolts and they sucked.... hated them when changing wheels. Without studs to hang the wheel on ,you have to hold the wheel in place, centered on the bore hole and start the lug bolts. The Impact driver loving tire changing monkeys hate them and are easier to strip the threads are are way more expensive to fix. Instead of changing a bad stud ,your changing the whole wheel hub.

It does cost less for Lexus as it cuts the parts used in half . Instead of 5 studs and 5 lug nuts per wheel it's only 5 lug bolts.

My Lexus dealer installs old style nx rims on the new NX for it's winter package

As for installing..just get wheel hangers ..they're like $12 on Amazon for M14x1.5 that the nx takes

Nice I would never have thought about this until the day AFTER I have a terrible experience in the snow uphill both ways when I had to change a tire. (or deal with the roadside assistance person that struggled with the situation)
For a small price, I can be prepared just in case.

Are you using the original new NX taper lug bolts for installing the old style NX rims?

Those 1st gen NX rims all have a flat surface in the socket for the flat lug nut washer.
Will new NX taper lug bolt have good surface contact on the old NX rim socket to keep it properly torqued?

After looking into it - I'm probably going to go with my Lexus Dealer. When looking at 20" - Costco is around $2000 for 20" winters, but then you need rims, TPMS, etc.
I've had steel rims from Costco and Crappy Tire, and they aren't good - they rust like mad, so I was going to go alloys.

Not my dealer, but Don Valley North Lexus (Markham) has a package for tires, install, TPMS, and rims. I've found OEM rims to be much better than what CT or Costco sell.

Also, if you can get pricing for each line item, you may be able to price match the tires alone - as my dealership said that they will match any price - even Costco.

$2733 seems reasonable with rims and all other installs.

here in Canada, my quote from Costco:
- A set of 235/60R18 BridgeStone BLIZZAK DM-V2: 274.99*4-$100 discount = $999.86 + tax
- A set of ATLAS 18 in. Alloy Wheel - CW082739: $219.99*4 = 879.96 + tax
- A set of TMPS from the dealer: $282.32 ($70.58/sensor)
- Installation at Costco would be $79 for the tires. not sure if additional labour needed to Mount and Balance and the TPMS installation

With the dealer, the Lexus of Richmond Hill has various winter packages but they don't do price match with Costco. Taking one of the package including BridgeStone BLIZZAK DM-V2 as an example, total cost is $2739.84 + tax has the following items:
Tires (BridgeStone BLIZZAK DM-V2): $1181.56 (295.39/tire)
Wheels (PW457-78001-MB (Silver)): $1039.96 (259.99/wheel)
Sensors: $282.32(70.58/sensor)
TPMS Labour: $30.00
Mount and Balance: $189.96
Tire recycling fee: $16
2 Seasons of Free Tire Storage: $0

I'm not quite sure how those lug bolts from the new NX fit on the Costco rims, and also I'm not very confident with Costco installations especially the tpms sensors. I've seen people went back to Lexus dealer to make it work. one more thing to note, some dealers reminded me to use run-flat tires while their website offering winter packages with non-run-flat tires. it's a bit confusing.

I found a full set of OEM 18 inch alloys removed from a 2022 NX from a Kijiji seller. Minor scratches on the inside of the wheel, otherwise it looks to be in good shape. Including TPMS sensors it was $1200. A set of new xice tires is around $1200 with install. So total cost would be 2400 (taxes in). Compared to the DVNL package which is 2700+taxes...the benefit is new rims
