Using navigation trying to turn up the volume it says audio paused, what did I do wrong how do I unpause the audio because touching the screen where the start stop pause button Waze did nothing

I started over and got it working but I’d like to know how to make it work properly

I was listening to a podcast on my phone through Apple CarPlay and I had paused the podcast and that is what the paused audio was probably but I could not get the Lexus navigation to talk to me at the same time
