Time to get real.

They could get as many chips as they need / want but don't want to pay the premium price point due to limited supply at the present.

They are waiting for the price of the chips to come down when supply catches up and the chips are cheaper due to them being in less demand due to them being second generation designs.

I've been in the semiconductor industry for over 40 years, I know what I'm talking about.

I usually post in the Corvette forums and just read / keep up in this forum.

My friend lost an Audi key fob. Dealer wants $800 to replace it. Is it gouging or supply and demand blackmail…. Regardless where I come from we call it robbery.

I also got only one key plus a credit card type thing that let's me open the car. The sales people said that Toyota would provide the second key at a later date. Hoping they will follow through.

The credit card style key fob is actually pretty good. Wife keeps this one in her purse, I carry the regular fob. She's perfectly happy with it when she takes the NX out and doesn't care it doesn't have buttons as she would never dig in her purse to find it to use the buttons anyway. We don't miss the 2nd regular key fob at all. When we finally get it, we'll likely just put it in a box somewhere as a spare.

Are you talking about the app that you download to you phone? Much about the tech available in cars these days is a mystery to me and it seems like you have to be an IT specialist to truly use it all. I have been learning a bit here and there by experimenting and watching Youtube videos and following this forum. One of the things I discovered that even surprised the dealer was that in the app on my phone, once I did the Digital Key thing, I was actually able to start the car WITHOUT a real physical key and drive it (at least rolling back and forth in the driveway). The sales person at the dealer said she did not expect this and it was a scary thing in her opinion.

LOL, its always amusing to find car sales people that have no clue how the features on the cars they sell actually work. The digital key is exactly that, a key. Not sure how scared I would be of a key that works like a key. It's like entering 2+2 in a calculator and upon seeing the number 4 appear in the display, shouting "Witch!" and proceeding to burn the calculator. Now if I found my phone hovering over my bed when I woke up in the morning, then I would be scared, using it to start my NX, about as scary as an extra french fry in my onion rings.

Yeah I would think the only "scary" thing that I think she was considering was what if the phone suddenly dies while you are driving or something along those lines. I have to admit I am old school and am getting leary about each and every thing these days being controlled by some "app" or some device. There is just a comfortable feeling getting into my old (2005) car and sticking the key in, turning it, and actually moving a mechanical linkage to put the car into gear.

Same boat here. We both have the credit card key for our non primary car. I lock the doors with the external door handle anyway and never pull the keys out of my pocket. Would consider moving to all wallet keys if they weren't over $600.

Now that I can understand, worrying about phone battery going flat while out and about (the car won't shutoff if the phone dies while driving FYI, but won't let it start again after shutting off). Unlike the regular key fobs which can be held up close to the start button to start if the fob battery is dead, no such option for digital key when phone battery is dead. Some people have also had issues getting the digital key to be reliable. It did take me a few weeks to figure out the nuances of using it (not quite as straight forward as regular keys), and since then I've never really had any problems with it, but I only use it to open the door or move the car around in the driveway for washing etc.

Phone app. Takes too long to lock/unlock. Our GV70 and it’s phone app are excellent.

The app is not ready for prime time. In addition to the shortcomings you point out, the start function has not worked 100% for us and it's also slow and clunky when it does work.
