Default Disable Start/Stop System

Does anyone know how to disable to the start/stop system on an NX350? The best solution is to have a menu choice to enable/disable the start/stop system, but the manual or some online searches show up negative.

Short answer: Unfortunately, it cannot be permanently disabled. (In my previous BMWs, the dreaded auto start/stop could be coded away.) In the NX350 turbo, however, you can shut it off after each time you turn on the engine.

The longer answer: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/nx-...t-disable.html

How do you turn it off after you turn the engine on? I only saw the setting for Standard or Extended under Setting >> Utility >> Start and Stop. If only they have and OFF option. Why Lexus, why?

Curious why you want to turn off?

The Prius has proven longevity concerns aren’t an issue

Touch the button on the right side that has an A encircled and “Off” below it.

It’s a poor implementation of start/stop IMO. For example, my BMW starts up much faster and it automatically disables in sport mode. In the NX 350, it takes too much time to start from a stop, creates noticeable delay when trying to accelerate from a stop. There are busy traffic situations where you need instant acceleration to protect your lane and/or get off the line quickly to make a timed light down the road. I’ve literally seen annoyed faces of drivers behind me in the rear view mirror as I press the gas pedal… wait… and slowly lurch off the line as the engine whirs to life. Most of the time it’s fine, but definitely situations where it’s a hindrance.

Thanks for pointing out that button… start/stop really should be automatically disabled when you activate sports mode, surprised it’s not!

Thanks, redhot47fl. I can't believe I didn't see that. I also found out that if you don't step on the brake hard at a stop, the start/stop feature will not engage. I kind of like that solution too. I guess I am use to the BMW with manually turning it off and staying it off unless I turn it back on.

As for not liking the feature, the NX 350 is not a hybrid, so every time the engine starts, it shakes the car a bit.
