WHEN:
June 27, 2009 (Saturday).
1:00PM at WA/OR Member Meet Spot (See Below) Will start our WA/OR Cruise to Johnston Ridge Observatory at 1:30pm.
WHERE:
To Mount St. Helen's Johnston Ridge Observatory
"Johnston Ridge Observatory, at the 52 mile
marker on SR 504, is named after the volcanologist
David Johnston, who was camped out on this ridge
observing the volcano when it blew. His final words were
“Vancouver, Vancouver, this is it.” He was never found.
This site has an awesome view, as well as great
exhibits. It is open May through October, or thereabouts,
depending upon snow. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.,
seven days a week. It is a US Forest Service fee site and
costs $8/adult. 360/274-2140"
General Area View:
WA/OR Meet Spot: Seaquest Visitor Centor Parking Lot (1:00PM), the "Meet Spot".
Off of I-5 Exit 49 5.2miles East on State Route 504 (Spirit Lake Highway).
General Information:
Each location (OR and WA) will arrange their own cruise up/down to the Seaquest Visitor Center Parking Lot (the "Meet Spot"). I am hoping to see some Canadians take this opportunity to see the history of famous eruption of Mount St. Helen. For those member live in the area in between, feel free to meet up at the "meet spot" at 1:00PM.
The afternoon meet time is in consideration of CL members who may join from Vancouver, BC.
Please feel free to grab something to eat on the way, or have some food at the observatory (edit: not sure if they have any food at observatory, will confirm this...).
It's about 45 miles scenic drive from the "meet spot". Let's hope that we will have a nice sunny day and enjoy the cruise!!!!
Once we arrive at the Johnston Ridge Observatory, we will conclude the 1st annual PNW cruise. Going back down in a group to I-5 and to PDX/SEA is totally up to each of you.
Lastly, it is important to remember to drive in accordance with law. Please be courteous to other drivers on the road. I do not want any members getting pulled over, getting citations or getting arrested for wreckless driving.

We hit a pothole, none of us in the car even saw it coming. When we all looked back I swear it disappeared lol. We got home safely though after pounding it out a little bit at the shell gas station.

Thanks to those came out and enjoy the nice weather. I want to thank Deek and Sang who helped to organize this event. Yogi, can't wait for the pix. I know you hate posting it online now days, so if that's the case, shoot me those pix via email.
Sorry to hear about mishaps (blown tire, damaged rim from pot hole etc..)...
I hope you guys had fun driving up to the observatory, taking lots of photos, and hang out with the rest of CL peeps.
I wanted to take more pix with you guys but carried away and spent too much time inside of the observatory.....
Thanks!!!
