Hello Everyone! The water pump is need of replacing for my '93 Sc3oo. Can the water pump be changed out by itself without changing the timing belt?

Yes you can, but the reason it's recommended to change both at the same time is because it's a labor intensive task and as an interference engine it's best to change both pieces simultaneously as preventative maintenance.

I did mine on my 93 sc300 about 1.5 years ago and you have to at least take off the timing belt to remove and replace water pump. Do you technically have to replace it? No, but you have to remove it to get the water pump out.

And my understanding is you NEVER stress a timing belt twice by installing it a second time after it has been removed to do other work no matter how few or many miles it has on it. I know some have been lucky but not me I am not taking that chance. Look how cheap they are and to me that is cheap insurance.

Unless you change the cam seals. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Good luck and watch your timing marks
