Hi all, new to the forum. Have a 1992 sc400 in great shape except the engine. Got my hands on a 97 Vvti engine and wonder what all will have to be changed to achieve a swap ? I’m a decent mechanic but new to the Lexus sc. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I’m an old navy submariner Btw. Hope to get to know some of y’all.

Welcome, fellow sailor, but carrier type CV and CVN.

As per your question, ECU, engine wiring, if you couls bring that transmission it's probably a 5 speed from my understanding. O2 sensors or buy new ones for 97 as pre-94 are non heated. You can jump on the Toyota manual site and get a 2 day pass and download all schematic on wiring and equipment for both models

There are some slight differences between 92 and 95, so your best starting point woukd be there.

Body harnesses and engine wire harnesses are different. You might be able to get away with using your stock harness and moving or adding wiring or pins.

Glad to have you aboard and that's from a very old ex navy guy with over 28 years in the engine room on surface craft. Let me back up and say that was active and reserve time.

That’s what I was thinking. If I change to an ecu for the 97 you think I can get it flashed to work . Not really sure about having it work with the 92. I know most things on ecu are for engine control ( lol thus it’s name ) but interfacing with 92 electronics inside etc. I’m pretty sure I can do the wiring change on 92 loom. Just schematics and maybe a few different connectors , I’m not totally sure yet. Thanks all. Good to meet more navy guys even if not submariners. Lol. My dad and 2 brothers were surface and an Airedale .
