Default 97 SC300 no response when turning key

Wondering if anyone can help me figure out what's wrong with my SC. Recently the alternator went out and I replaced it along with the battery, it was working fine for a while until I parked it one day and came back out to it a couple of hours later. It started but I noticed that the dash and radio lights were not on. I thought it was weird so I turned it off thinking it'd fix itself but when I turned the key to start it nothing happened. No sound no nothing. Couldn't even hear the fuel pump prepping or anything. What is also weird is that when the door is open and I turn the key to the on position the door chime will still sound, it's as if the car knows the key is in but doesn't realize it is being turned. At first I assumed starter so I jumped the starter fuse and the car started right up, but still no dash lights or anything. The shifter will also not let me take it out of park. Also when I go to lock the car using the remote it will play the sound as if it is locking but it never actually does, nor does it unlock. Have to manually open it now. I'm thinking it is the ignition switch but I heard that it is a pain in the *** to swap so I want to make sure it really is it before doing anything to it. Anyone have any ideas of what it could be? I'd really appreciate the input.

Have you checked the battery? It sounds like you had a major drain on the new battery and it's too flat for most functions now.

I would also second the battery. Always consider the age of the battery sitting on the shelf.

I set the car aside for a while and am just getting back to it. I have not checked the battery but I will be taking it to get charged here so I will find out if it's good or bad soon. Will update.

Okay so I went and had the battery replaced because it did turn out to be a bad battery but I still had the same issue so I took a closer look at my fuses and noticed that I had a blown 120a fuse. I ordered it from the dealer and it came in today. I swapped it out but as soon as I hooked up the battery a spark flew and the fuse had blown again. Ordering another fuse again but I've narrowed it down to possibly being an alternator issue. What would cause the fuse to keep blowing like this?

I switched out the alternator and the fuse but I keep having the same issue. The only time the fuse doesn't blow is when I have the positive cable on the alternator off. The one that goes on the post. I'm assuming I have a short somewhere.
