Default RAM cold air intake hack

I wanted to do the BFI mod but didn’t want to hack up my OEM air box so I took it off and inspected it. Noticed that the stock air box is fed by a snorkel that draws air from behind the passenger headlight.

So I thought wouldn’t it be great to somehow channel cold outside air through this snorkel and keep everything stock looking. Got some silicone 90 deg elbows and hose clamps and PVC piping and rigged this up.

During my tests I swear the car pulls harder using this cold air but have no way of testing it. Let me know what you guys think.

Stock snorkel with 2 sides, one big, one smaller

A better view from the top with air box

Just 2” elbow in the big side

Second elbow was 1.75” to 2”. PVC pipes were 1.5”

Pipes peaking out just barely for the stock look

I made one years ago using a duct like this.
Amazon Amazon

Would give it a cleaner look.

@KennyFSU I have something like this too but how did you fit it into the grille? Mine is taller than 2" which wouldn't slide in between the horizontal grille bars so I just left the pipes. You can't really see when driving around the streets.

an air scoop below the snorkel? Nice, how's it holding up? Notice any gains?

No issues many years later. I never really noticed a difference -- I'm not a believer in trying too hard to tell, because that just means you end up imagining it -- but figure it's either neutral or mildly helpful. To me, the biggest thing is not copying the dangerously bad design of the typical BFI.

My right fog light might just be a piece of duct.
