VSsc400, very good points. I wonder what would make a company abandon a project that's almost to completion, and already has money invested in it. Ie. -SRT I believe it was??

VS,

I could not have said it better myself. I think the powers that be here on CL were warned by a number of members of the above mentioned facts and the CL powers laid down the law. Good for them.

I just want FI for my SC400 so bad!!! I just dont want the SC300 guys to take all the glory. I really do hope Lextreme can make a turbo kit with some sort of results( ie dynos or something) I wont give up on the 400 we are so close. And I am so tired of people saying that everyone is " all talk no play" when its time to get the money up: But the few people who want to commit, there is never anybody legit enough to finish. So it get all the SC400 owners hype up for no rerason. I hope one day in the future, The soon future I can pull up to a SC300 and watch his face go in the mirror as he see's nothing but pipes Nothing personal SC300 guys, just my dream

Later from Italy

I would chip in the $250 if you needed it and by June i should have enough money saved up for a kit if it is around 4000. But only if the kit comes with everything. Will you use stock ECU? Also one question for you Lextreme. Do you think creating a manual sc400 would be just as beneficial as a turbo. I am trying to stock up a parts now. I think it would free up alot of power and make the 400 a real bad @$$. But i'll keep dreaming but let me know about the progress or keep us updated.

A $4k turbo most likely isn't going to happen. You would have to double up (twins) on alot of things which would make it closer to $7k. Then you have to add part of the R&D that someone else did and you didn't. You should not expect to pay just for the parts in the kit. Now considering it probably costs $12-15K to do they first kit and then only 5 people ended up not being just talkers. Then you would have to figure that a $7k budget turbo kit would cost you $8k to $9600 to make up for the costs of R&D. How many people would really buy a kit anyway? I bet even at a deal of around $6500-7000 most people would want but not buy. Someone does have a twin turbo SC pulling around 340hp (crank) I believe. If I made one I would go 350rwhp with around 10psi. I would focus more on spooling and response. The 4 liter engine in these cars woudl provide plenty of kick down low and also throughout the power band. Would you really need more than around 420 crank? The car would kick butt and probably the tranny would survive. Perhaps 0-60 in 5 seconds and 13.5 second quarter?

You could tune an old SC400 NA probably to around 235rwhp. A manual with that would kick butt too. But consider the cost of that too. Full exhaust - $1500, Headers - $700, BFI - $100, S-AFC - $300. Probably a 5.5 second 0-60 car with the manual tranny. Maybe low 14 second quarter?

All guestimates of course.

To add to this I offered to eat some R&D costs but noone has offered their vehicle for testing. Anyone have a pre98-SC400 that they don't need for a few months?

Or if you can't lend one is there someone with an SC400 near Northwest Arkansas that I can make some measurements on at least to see how feasible this is? I gave my Sc400 away some time back so that one is out of the question.

There are a lot of valid points that have been brought up regarding this subject of FI. No matter how you cut it, it will cost some serious money to do it. And to be concerned whether or not one will get burned, whether it is by paying and not even getting a product, to buying one that never works, to reliability and tuning factors, it most certainly warrants concern.

I do know that there are a few that are working on this on a commercial basis. Time will tell if they come up with a viable solution that will fit the requirements that most of us want in a FI system.

Until then, I am just going to work on other mods that get me further up that "Need for Speed" element on my SC.

Here is something worth investigating. XS Engineering has turbocharged a few 430 vehicles (SC, GS) and may be able to use the system on an earlier car... assuming you use late model exhuast manifolds... or HEADERS

Anyway, check out this thread

Design is leaning toward single turbo now to cut costs. Once I get an SC400 I will begin to get everything measured. I am going to try and keep everything mandrel bent but no promises. I mean there will be some welds regardless.

Anyone have a good fluid dynamics software to computer test some flow designs? I don't want to just smash together tubing.

LOL fat finger that much?

Seriously though would people pay a little more for a kit that is all mandrel bent or would they not care as long as it works.

Almost every kit out there isn't completely mandrel bent. I am referring to having the entire length of a tube CNC bent and not just welding mandrel bent pieces together like 99% of the turbo kits.
