I'm sure the mufflers are restrictive point... but other than the mufflers... whats the bottleneck? To me it seems the piping from the first to the second cat would be the next biggest restriction?

can anyone confirm?

cats actually outflow the cat back system...

major factors are the crush bent piping, resonators and mufflers

so i am correct in saying that the piping from the 1st cat to the 2nd cat is a big restriction besides the mufflers

not necesarily. it is the piping from the cat to the resonators and the resonators to the mufflers that is restrictive. The piping between the cats is larrge enough. I believe it is between 2.5" and 3"

When I had my exhaust system done, the muffler guy told me the same thing. Our cats outflow cat back systems. That was news to me.

However, he also told me the resonators aren't a restriction, but the OEM mufflers are.

FWIW, I'm using a catless midpipe, OEM resonators, and stainless, double-offset, straight-through Magniflow mufflers with the OEM tips welded on. The mufflers sound completely stock and have flowed 21psi with no problems. Additionally, the Magniflows even look better than OEM because they're not as "fat" as the stock mufflers.

I get comments all the time that I'm running a stock exhaust. Little do they know.

motorhead.... so you're running a straightpipe (no 2nd cat)... did you replace the piping from where the 2nd cat would have been to the OEM resonators, and the OEM piping from the resonators to your magniflows?

Also... how's it sound? I'm looking for something quiet... i've been there done that with the whole loudass car thing

Turbo mani replaces the first cat; Supra midpipe (catless) replaces the OEM midpipe; and Magniflows replace the OEM mufflers. Resonators stay in place. Trust me... you won't be disappointed. It will look and sound *completely* stock.

I can do everything but the turbo manifold since my car is staying NA...

well if you're saying that the cats flow really well... what i'll do is just replace all the piping to 2.5, keep the OEM resonators, 1st cat, and use an aftermarket straight through design muffler.

Staying NA with such a heavy car and the 2jz wont yield such fruitful gains. Many of the NA supra guys still have their heads in the clouds with the all motor projects. At most youll yield a few horsepower and a much louder car. If what youre looking for is a more aggressive sound youll have it.

On another note, Im going to have a set of XERD headers for sale soon =)
