No, but I need to do so fairly soon, they're a little stiff, esp. the little ones towards the back of the pump (running to the block? and intake).

Your reservoir screen may clogged up and won't let the PS fluid go to the pump. I've seen this happened all the time, because at the bottom of your reservoir there is a small screen and when the fluid get dirty, the screen clogged up.

Indeed. That's what I first thought of as well.

However, I had the mechanic add some more fluid to my reservoir and it turned out that the whining noise got a lot quieter.

After he lifted up my car, he also discovered that it is actually the pump, not the high pressure hose that was leaking.

As for the alternator, I am keeping my fingers crossed for now.

I had the same issue with my old fluid: it was brown (maybe a tad reddish) and smelled plasticy/rubbery/burned. WHen I got the new pump, I found out that it "requires" a certain fluid, which looks a lot like trans. fluid in color - reddish/purple. I kinda wonder if the wrong fluid in the pump aided in it's demise... well, that and the lack of bolts holding it in :rooleyes: I think my pump burned out b/c my rack & pinion is leaking a little fluid on the pass. side, and I havn't been keeping an eye on the fluid level like I should have been, so it got low. Check your R&P unit for fresh oil.
