Call around your area to see if any shops can rebuild/rewind it for you- probably be quite a bit cheaper

1tym, if you're located in Southern Cal, anywhere near Los Angeles I know a great place that will rebuild your alternator for under $100. I had them rebuild mine recently and it took them about an hour and 1/2 from start to finish, and they include a 1 year warranty. The place is called "CP Generators" and they're located near downtown LA on the corner of Washington Bl. and Figueroa. #213.746.1060, ask for Eric. Hope this helps.

are there any pros and cons of having the stock alternator rebuilt to have more amps? i believestock amp on the alternator is 100 and im looking for around 150+. i may go this route to save some money, but only if its worth it. i want to do it right the first time.

mikeloc24,

i am from Sacramento, CA 95823. did that place rebuild your alternator to stock specs? can they rebuild a 100 amp alternator and make it 150+ amps?

Don't know the details, I've only heard of people having it done. If I remember correctly, OLT knew a shop in TN that would do it. You might try asking him.

1tym, I called and spoke to Eric on your behalf. He said he can definitely do the work you want. If your car is a 1992 like mine he can make the amp go up to 170 and the price is $199.99, pretty damn good price IMO. And like I said, they give you a 1 year warranty. All you'd have to do is get the part out of the car and ship it to them, I've been dealing with them for over 5 years and have never had a part fail after having it rebuilt by them. Give it a try if it's worth the effort. Good luck.
