What did you spend on having that pipe made for your SC?

It cost me $200 total for the job. The X-pipe was $65 to fabricate. I may replace it with a Magnaflow X-pipe since I heard they flow very well. Overall the custom X-pipe flows great. I have to weigh my options right now. First I will need to get some new rotors and pads so more intake/exhaust mods have to wait a bit.

My X-pipe was made out of (2) 3ft. sections of 2.25" piping. They bent the X-pipe on one end of the piping and left the other end straight to weld to the rear section of the exhaust. I showed them a pic of this Dr. Gas X-pipe to give them and idea of what I wanted:

Just in case, here's a better pic of my X-pipe for comparison purposes:

I printed your picture and went to a local shop and they quoted me 280 and told me it would take less than 2 hours just seemed high to me if they can do it that quick

Yeah it is a bit much. Are they using stainless steel or aluminized piping? My job took a little over 2.5 hours. They took their time. The X-pipe took 1 hour, the other piping a little over an hour, and about 1/2 hour for the welding/fitting. It cost $200 for everything but it is aluminized piping. I have used aluminized piping from this place before and it never rusted after two years of dirt and mud on my Ford F-150 4x4. Be sure to see if the piping they use if T-304 stainless or aluminized (be sure aluminized has a decent protective weather coating). Let me know if you have any other problems. BTW, what exactly did you do to your intake? I am curious. I have a TRD panel filter and am contemplating removing my intake snorkel as well. Don't you remove the headlight from behind the fender well?

If you look at the front of our intake at the bottom you will see a snorkel. I believe there were a couple ten mm bolts holding it in place. I unbolted them and keep moving and prying stuff until I go the piece out. Yes the headlight does come out from behind the fender 2 bolts at least. I got my snorkel out without removing the light it would have been easier to remove it though. I know there is a good rectangular opening on the lower front of my airbox now and I made a little blocking plate between the air intake and the cooling fan to direct hot air away from coming in. I didnt want to cut my air box up so I figured I would try this first and it changed the sound of the car completely really throaty sounding when you rev it now and it runs better on the upper end also. Just a free mod I guess.

livesc400,

Great mod wish you had done a before dyno but hey... at least you got of your backside and did it

One suggestion... I would have them reinstall the middle exhaust hangers. They would need to weld an extention to each pipe to reach to the hanger but it will take load off your catalysts and exhaust manifolds. Right now all that is supporting your exhaust is the rear hangers and the cat flanges.

98LexSc400, what did your car dyno? Do you have the graph?

Greg (Nazty), you have a California exhaust.

I need to take some pictures of mine when i get it up in the air next but I did have them run some hangers to the pipes like jbrady was saying when they built mine.

Jbrady check out this link off my site for a graph of my dyno run. It was last year when the car was still stock will get new graphs very soon.

Nice

Were those numbers corrected? I notice you ran it October which probably meant cold air (more power) and may actually correct down depending. That is not to say your car didn't make 234.5rwhp/264.9rwtq... as that is what it actually did on that dyno on that day. But the correction could be important in comparing any mods you make.

That said, that is is much as most stock GS400s make and they are rated 10hp/10tq higher than the SC400 and LS400s.

One more thing, rwhp in a chassis dyno is what makes it to the wheels but the torque number is re-factored back to the engine (less the drivetrain losses). The ACTUAL torque at the wheels must be multiplied by the gearing. Even in 4th gear (1:1 ratio) their is still the differential at 3.26 to one. So, 264.9 reported torque is actually at LEAST 863 pounds feet of torque at the wheels MUCH more in 1st gear.

I am not sure yet - I think there may be a small leak somewhere. It sounds awesome though!! I have to go out of town for work but when I return I will bring it back in and get it looked at.

And thanks LiveSC - I showed them your pic and said " I WANT THIS!!!"

Peace player,

Jonny
