Don't think we can remove the 3rd cat in Cali
If I'm wrong someone let me know and it will come off in a heartbeat.

LiveSC,

Hey man - thx for the link!

It will be a while b4 I will be posting pics of my car. I got it in pretty rough shape so I am in ther process of getting it back to the shape it needs to be in. When she is healthy again I will be posting pics - LOTS OF THEM!!!

I can't wait to get her looking the way she should. Just wish I had the $$$ to get her all fixed at once!!

I will keep you posted. I just need to find a competent muffler shop where I live - all the ones here are morons!!

Take care man, peace

Jonny

Jonny - Good luck on your SC. They are great cars along with all the other "Lexi" . Keep us posted on your progress.

Hotboy - I think you will have no problem mechanically/electronically by removing the center cat. The only problem would be finding an exhaust shop crooked enough to remove it for you. You should still pass emissions in Cali. Our cars almost run clean enough to pass Cali emissions with no cats on (based oh what I've heard before....correct me if I am wrong).

Live,

Couple of questions I didn't find answers to???

1. How much did it cost you to get it done so I know whether or not I'm getting quoted too much?

2. Do u still have your cats? If so, are they stock or hi-flo's??

3. If I did what u did on my 93 SC400, using a hi-flo cat but basically doing what u did - would I get the same sound as your 98??

4. What if I did what u did but added Magnalow mufflers also - would it sound good or too loud?

1. I paid $200 cuz I knew the guys that did it. You can expect $200-300 depending on where you go.

2. Yes...they are stock cats. From my experience with my old 93 SC400's cats, they aren't really worth replacing for power (back pressure loss...gain top end but lose low-end) but the sound gains are good (if you remove your resonators, it will be way too loud). Our cats are not extremely restrictive anyway. I found this out since I gutted one for fun.

3. Yes. The sound would be similar to mine.

4. After hearing Magnaflows on a GS400 with a similar setup, they smoothen out the tone but did not make anything louder. The stock mufflers have the same deep tone as the Magnaflows. As our stock mufflers are straight-thru.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Nice movie man! My local muffler shop charged me only $60 to just connect the front pair of pipes to the rears, lose the center resonator, and add a short crossover too.Sounds like yours pretty much from what I can tell from the vid.
My wife never even noticed...

Question

just a quick question SCV8, did you keep your two rear resonators on? i was wondering if I did what livesc400 did if it would be too loud for the neighbors, but if i were to just get rid of the center resonator if it would still sound great but not toooo loud.

I know this is an old thread, but is the video still up somewhere? This is the same set up I'm looking at doing for my car.

Thanks,
