no but you are planning on spending like 25 grand, building up your motor for a drag car... when it's really not all that good for drag racing ??

i would have cut some costs and went for suspension

Actually I'm pretty close to spending that much. I am not building a drag car as I am not confused into thinking this is a funny car. I am however building a highway car that I can do rollons with. Bikes will not be a problem and that really is my goal. I bought some Teins, but before I get carried away by all the HKS/Tein/JIC arguements I should let it be known that I'm still not confused into thinking this is a miata. I will not be autocrossing this thing or slinging it around Road Atalanta. So for my suspension it was a choice of two things. It had to ride okay, and they had to be coilovers so my 18x11's will fit.

Seriously and no BS, what other car is out there for 40K or even 80K that will do the things mine will? I can't think of any. And for sure none of them will turn the rollers on the dyno with 850+ rwhp.
And none of them will be a sleeper like my SC.

Bottom line: 74MM turbo + 38 psi + C16 = GREAT TIME

Mike

A T-88? Oh yeah.. you'll be able to get'em. They will be happy on the jump, but once your spooled you'll waste'em. Unless my math is really bad or you have HELLA Hookups then you probably north of the 15K mark as well. Very cool... Glad to see that there is a huge set of sleeper sc300's around.

2mm headgasket for $250

This total comes out to be a little less than $3500...But I also sold my stock ge head, cams, distributor, valve covers, intake manifold, TB, fuel injectors, automatic transmission with torque convertor, ge motormounts, etc and got a total of almost $1K.. So totally, I spent roughly $2500...

The car runs excellent at 14 psi without a boost controller. I am definitely pleased with the results.
Would you recommend this to someone instead of doing a complete engine swap? The price is much more in my ballpark. The only other thing I was wondering about was the wiring. I've never doen anything major to my care and I had planned on getting that manual from the fly-hawaii guy that has all the diagrams for a complete GTE swap. If I just swap the head and the pistons, is the wiring pretty straightforward to do myself?

Swapping the head only is not for beginners. Bolting on a turbo kit is legos and pixi stix compared to what william had to do to get his car working the way it does now. The wiring is extensive, and without thourough understanding of wiring diagrams, i would not attempt it. William also crunched compression numbers for weeks before deciding what boost / compression would work best, and how to achieve it.

The head swap alone may be a more reasonable option for some highly knowledgeable gearheads with plenty of time, a masochistic view of auto mechanics, and a very limited budget.

It may appear to be cheaper at first, but things can quickly go horribly wrong, sending the cost into the stratosphere.

The turbo kit is a painless, quick, weekend project for a driveway wrencher and will still make good power.

Unless you want to go HUGE power or have disposable cash and want the mystique of a GTE, a turbo kit just plain makes more sense.

You can always make things real hard and convert an SC300 w/auto tranny and go GTE w/ 6 spd. Now that is a PITA.

BTW if you want speed as in 1/4 mile then get a built Turbo 400 tranny. It will be much faster than a 6spd.

You can do the same on your IS300 but the botton end on you IS300 is weaker . The wiring is will be the most challenging part.

I have to agree with the above statement also. I am in the middle of swapping to a 1JZ into my SC400. Everyone knows it costs to play and even more into the 400. I had to buy extra parts that the 300 sometimes already has in it. Here is a list of what I can remember that I have bought and I am still NOT finished buying parts.

1JZ motor and auto tranny, with the R154 - $2500. He sent me a video of it running and several pictures that he had in his Soarer. He also replaced the wiring clips, water pump (OEM), and all the seals, before I bought it. The only thing that needed to be replaced was the right valve cover gasket, it had a tear in it, once it was removed from the car. It came with complete uncut wiring, ignitor, and the ECU. The tranny had no shifter, and the housing seal had a slight crack, easy fix with high temp silicone.
1JZ bellhousing and lightened flywheel with washer plate, and 12 exhaust studs- DM, paid $740 shipped.
1JZ gasket kit, member on here, paid $120 shipped
SC400 pedal set and SS clutch line, like new from member on here, paid $300 shipped
Front half of a MKIII driveshaft, clutch fork, another member, paid $125 shipped, still awaiting delivery.
800cc injectors, DM downpipe, full exhaust, HKS carbon fiber slip on, 4" intake, with K and N filter, T4 manifold, Tial 44m wastegate, member on here, $1500
SC400 manual shifter cover.. paid $40 shipped
SC400 TRD shifter ****... Paid $40.00
Motor stand.. paid $75.00
SC300 radiator, fan shroud, fan, condensor, all AC lines from firewall to compressor, overflow coolant tank with all bolts and brackets, 95 Camry throttle cable.. paid $310, shipped, cost $205 to ship, due to box being so big and heavy..
Misc steel braided lines for turbo, size 10 and 4 with couplings, around $200.
DEI heat wrap.. paid $100 for several packages and ties.
Clamps to hold the wrap on manifold... $9.00
AC line oring kit.. $10.00
FMIC...Ebay one .. had brackets already.. $187.00 shipped
BW S366 turbo.. $700 shipped
MISC paint stripper remover for bumper and sandpaper.. $100.00
MIsc cans of VHT high temp clear and aluminum paint, with semi gloss black... $100.00
R154 shifter... Paid $12.00, didnt come with the top mounting bracket or seal.
DM shifter washer, speed sensor, 4 quarts of Redline tranny fluid, clutch hub, throwout bearing, both tranny outer seals.. Paid $240.00 shipped
Misc seals and tubes of silicone, $25.00
AEM digital boost gauge with all accessories.. $140.00 shipped
Three stage pod holder from Advanced, had to modify to fit.. $40.00
R154 pilot bearing.. $5.00
Wire tie for the heat wrap, bought from Lowes.. $4.95
NGK Iridium plugs X 6... $55.00
TT fuel pump.. $100.00 shipped
Modified shifter and welding.. $40.00
SC300 motor mounts and brackets, traded for the stock injectors.

I am sure that I am forgetting some things, but you get the idea. I bought some new, some slightly used, and some new.. Parts to me are getting harder to find, due to so many people modding their SC's. if you find a good deal on something, then buy it.. I still need the ACT stage 4 clutch for around $580, and the BC stage 2 cams for $550, and the AEM V2 standalone, around $1250..
