the 1JZ is a good engine but its not smog legal and there since it was only offered in Japan you have to get all your parts from there. If it was me, the 2JZ is a better choice, smog legal, offered in the US & .5L more displacement.

actually the parts thing isnt that much of a problem. most parts are interchangeable with the 2jz. you can even retro fit the ct12's from the 2jz to fit up to the 1jz.. the interesting thing is that some guys with only an intake exhaust and downpipe are making 300-320 whp, so if you arent looking for the ultimate street car or a 900hp beast it is an ok decision to go with. go to supraforums.com like stated above and check under the mkIII section there is a devotied area for the 1jz that will give you a ton of info and it will let u see how relliable it actually is. i too have been tempted to choose which to get and i am still going back and forth btw the 1jz and the 2jz because of the advantages of both. good luck

I agree... if you're not looking to make a beast out of it.... a 1jz will do you fine... plus with the savings of NOT going with a 2jz.... you can put towards go-fast goodies

1jz - revs higher, cheaper, plenty of aftermarket support
2jz - more torque, plenty of aftermarket support

Ueno (Vertex Soarer) makes 350-550whp (1jz) among his 7 soarers that he uses to compete... so take it for what it's worth

i think a good way to help him would be for someone who knows what basic bpu type upgrades will give the average 1jz. i have been searching for information like that for myself and it makes the decision all that much easier if you can get around 400 horse from intake, fmic, downpipe, exhaust, cam gears, 1bar boost, 550cc injectors and a fpr. if anyone can give a general idea to how much certain mods gives the motor that would help i think 90% of the consumers trying to decide on such a swap.

so long story short....if anyone knows fill us in!! thanks guys
