Default bad pulley or bad pump???

hi all,

my power steering pump is making a squeeling noise (not consistent, only every now and then), but I think it's coming from the pulley itslef.
Because the power steering fulid is full and doesn't leak.

Can just the pulley be changed out?
Or does the whole pump need to be changed out?

Thanks
Ken

Does it squeal when you first start the car and then get loud as you turn the steering wheel in place? (You may have to open the hood to hear better) Does it sound like a whining/whiring noise? Does it go away after the car is warmed up and the fluid expands?

HI Hermosa,
thanks for the reply,
it makes a noise on startup then either it quites down or not,
it's worse on cold wet days. These past 2 days it made NO sounds. ???
But when it does make a sound it doesn't get louder or quieter with the turn of the steering wheel.
It just stays constant. Thats what make me think the pump is "ok"
If it's bad it should make more noise when I turn the wheel while parking. right?

The sounds goes away 70% of the time after the car warms up.

any ideas....
it isn't showing all the symptoms of a bad steering pump. and I have no leaks....
hmmm maybe the filter is clogged???

regards
Ken

Sounds like your fluid is a little low but not much. You might want to try adding a little but remember that too much will cause you problems. Also since your fluid is low you should check to see if the system has a leak somewhere. My SC400 has this issue where I need to put a teaspoon of fluid in every year. It does not leak onto the alternator though [yet] which is infamous in the SC400 series. I do not know or have ever heard of a similar problem for the SC300s with the alternator being affected.
