Default first lump mod

I've decided to do my first engine mod...a cold air intake. I'm slightly skeptical because I don't want to do anything to mess up my smooth running car. It seems there are no possible negative effects of an intake. Can you guys give me some advice. What brand is good? Prices? I think they are around $100. Is this a DIY or need pro help?
Thanks

Look into the BFI, which is DIY. Good results from what I hear.

BFI !!!! easy, better throttle response, slightly deeper sound, better mpg, flows better than aftermarket intake, costs around $10.
I did it BFI v3 with Lexan and highly recommend it.
